Pro-Gay Group Cries Foul by Steve Jordahl, correspondent
Legal association upset that the Bush administration is taking steps to protect the rights of the Boy Scouts.
A pro-gay legal group is upset with the U.S. Department of Education for establishing rules to protect the Boy Scouts from being denied access to public schools for their meetings. What Lambda Legal wants is special protection for homosexual student clubs, as well. But Ken Marcus, a spokesman for the Education Department, said there's good reason to protect the Scouts—especially with the nation at war.
"What Congress said is that they were concerned that the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts were facing discrimination, either because of their oath of allegiance to God and country, or because of their membership and leadership criteria," Marcus explained.
Michael Adams of Lambda Legal, however, contends gay groups and patriotic groups should be treated the same.
"Why it is that patriotic groups are being singled out for special attention and special treatment, I think, is a very legitimate question," he said. Alliance Defense Fund attorney Gary McCaleb disagreed, saying that Lambda's goal is to legitimize the homosexual lifestyle.
"This is clearly another effort for homosexual advocates to say that they are contributing the same positive things to society that other groups do," he said. "They have a right to free speech, but that doesn't mean every advocacy group for homosexuals brings to the table the same standards of morality that the Boy Scouts have stood for."

Clap! Clap! There's nothing like some good, clear speaking to blow the politically correct BS out the window!
I am so tired of these cry baby lefties trying to force me to approve of their choices and their way of life! I DO NOT APPROVE AND I NEVER WILL!!! If they are so damn sure that they want to live that way, so be it, but why are they so determined to push it on the rest of us. KEEP YOUR SEX IN YOUR BEDROOM AND OUT OF MY SIGHT...what is so unreasonable about that?
JOhn KERry and Mama T promise that they will not rest until the Boy Scouts of America allow homosexual scout leaders. Mama T has assured the homosexual/lesbian lobby that furthering the homosexual agenda will be a top priority in a Kerry/Edwards administration and that she will insist Kerry have a 'Queer Quota' for organizations that deny homosexuals access to other peoples children.
But hell no. I can't be that. Instead, "tolerance" means "You have to actively celebrate my destructive choices, throw me a pride parade, and grant me all sorts of special priviledges just so I can fool myself into thinking I'm normal."
It goes beyond that, my friend. They want access to your innocent children!
What they are is what they used to be openly called, sexual deviants or perverts. They are no more than 1% to 3% of the population.
Scouting is an excellent program for boys. For about 100 years, Scouting has reached out to boys of all races and religions, working to instill pride in self, devotion to God, and general manhood preparation. I'm very pleased that BSA has an active program to revive Scout Dens and Troops in inner city America. While others talk, Scouts do.
Scouting deserves more than to be used as a political pawn by those who can't stand that they aren't normal.
This is great news for Scouts. Scouts has been one of the best things for my son and I'm a proud Cub Scout Den Leader! Thank-you Mr. Bush for your support of this organization.

Mr. HELMS proposed an amendment to the bill H.R. 5504, supra, as follows:
At the appropriate place in the Committee amendment on page 142, lines 1-6, insert the following:
`Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the Office of Personnel Management is prohibited from including in the Combined Federal Campaign (the Federal government's annual employee fund-raiser for charities), and from contracting with, any organization which uses charitable contributions to compel, or attempt to compel, the Boy Scouts of America, Inc., or any other youth group, to accept as members or permit as leaders:
(1) homosexuals; or
(2) individuals who reject the group's oath of allegiance to God and country.'.
