Freepers...Can anyone tell me who originated the term "Broken Glass Republicans"? Was it coined by a single person of repute? or was it the type of line that just grew one day on the political talk shows? This is a serious question, and I could'nt think of a better place to ask. A refrence would be helpful (link to source) When you "google" this, you get over 30,000 hits. A long night is in store for me, unless... Thanks folks!
I did.

Did a google search. Inside one of the FR articles is the following:
The one group I know will show up is the group I expect will have the biggest impact on the election's outcome. And they are the Broken Glass Republicans. So named by Byron York of the American Spectator.
They're called Broken Glass Republicans because that's what they'd walk over to throw the Clinton-Gore administration out. That's what they'd crawl over to remove them from power. That's what they'd crawl over to remove this extraordinary corruption from our national life. That's what we'd crawl over to give Clinton-Gore a rebuke, and remove them from our history.
I believe it was Dick Morris, but I could wrong. It happened once before :)
Hey, while we're at it.. Why does the GOP elephant have 3 stars upside down :(
Just kidding about Dick Toe Sucker Morris.
I think it was actually Peggy Noonan
Thank you, thank you!!!!! Thats it.
I just took your post and confirmed it by going to google with it. The Opinion Journal has an article on it:

You groove.
Never notice that, good question.
Our very own Lone Palm coined the phrase. LP, sincerest condolences on the loss of your mom.
I first heard the term during the 2000 election, if that helps any.
No...I am Spartucus.
I got it, thank you. See post #8
Not exactly ... see #10. Peggy and Byron got it from FreeRepublic's Lone Palm.
Happened during the *Crinton years. Could refer to either the busted televisions that were smashed while the impeached *One was displayed, or the bottles from the twelve-pack that were thrown at the television showing the impeached *One.
This should be taught in schools...
;-)
Peggy Noonan declared in a column about 2 weeks before the 2000 election that Bush's base was fired up and his voters were willing to crawl over broken glass to vote for him.
I'm a molten lava libertarian. That's what you toss liberals, socialists, communists, and other public thumbsucking idiots into on their way to vote.
My homage to you.
I now can now, with attributions, call myself a "Broken Glass Republican"
What the hell...while we're at it; why do those rolls of 100 U.S. Flag stamps peel off in such a manner that if you're right handed you're bound to stick 'em on the envelope upside down? Infiltration??
