Bush's Ohio Valley Why has he stopped campaigning here? By Chris Suellentrop Posted Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, at 1:37 PM PT
Could he win without Ohio? Maybe.
COLUMBUS, OhioWhite House press secretary Scott McClellan wandered into the press cabin on Air Force One this week to let the media know where President Bush would be campaigning. On Thursday, Pennsylvania. On Friday, Pennsylvania and Florida. On Saturday, Florida. Those are two of the presidential campaign's "Big Three" states, which nearly everyone assumes will decide the election. The glaring omission: Ohio.
"Why aren't we going to Ohio? The president hasn't been there in several weeks," a reporter asked McClellan after the plane landed. Oops, the president will head to Canton on Friday, McClellan said. "I think I forgot to mention Ohio."
McClellan's lapse is understandable. Bush seems to have forgotten about Ohio, too. "The Bush campaign is confident it can win the state; as if to prove its comfort level, today marks 14 days since the Republican president last set foot in Ohio," Cleveland's Plain Dealer wrote this past Saturday. By the time Bush arrives in Canton tomorrow, he'll have gone 19 days without campaigning in the Buckeye State. His last stop here was in Cuyahoga Falls on Oct. 2.
By the way, I'm currently watching Stolen Honor on the web. Powerful is an understatement.
wow....
I almost went to Capital University in Columbus to play baseball....but elbow issues and the cost (I couldnt afford it on my own and I dead set against having my parents pay it for me) stopped me.
Good luck to your son. I am sure he will make it.
Yeah she is.....the picture on the CNN website doenst do her justice to what she looks like now.
To me shes gorgeous and is just a notch below my wife :)
BS...unless kerry has given up on NJ as well...pure BS
Thats cool...
I didnt need to see it. Just from what my dad says (he is a Vietnam vet as my mother is) I dont need too know anymore than that.
The bastardo is going down....
Bush is going to be there in the final week, with the Governator.
"I'll be back"
I feel for the liberals down there.
I pity the fools . . uh . . whoops. Wrong big scary guy.
Ohio is weird. The entire state in is deep depression over the Buckeye's 0-3 start in the Big 10..If they win this Saturday..look for W's pol numbers there to jump 5%..
I emailed the author of this article Chris Suellentrop the following:
Chris,
Bush hasn't visited Ohio in 20 days and it's tied!
Bush owns Ohio.
Nice try getting the dems revved and the Repubs bummed though. But we see through it.
Regards,
John
This was his response:
Actually, I didnt mean to exclude that possibility. But Bush seems to think the state has swung, one way or the other.
----
"didn't mean to exclude that possibilty?" THis is Slate propaganda pure and simple. They want to demoralize us and are risking their (IMHO) good reputation to do so. I'm comfortable calling them reputable because they are openly left.
HERE WAS MY RESPONSE:
Chris,
Just heard that Bush plans to hit all 12 media markets in Ohio before 11-2-04 and Rasmussen's 7 day has Bush up 50-46 in Ohio.
Just saw Mickey on CNBC spreading this ridiculous rumor that Bush has given up in that state.
Come on, we know Slate wants Kerry to win, but this propaganda has to stop. You guys have a reputation to uphold, which in this conservatives opinion is a good one.
And let me repeat: Bush spent 20 days out of Ohio and he's at worst a point down. Kerry has lived there and that's the best he can do?
That's the story in Ohio.
Have a good weekend.
-----
Hopefully they will get it together. It's one thing to be leftists. It's another to be propagandists.
It is total BS...
more or less any state that is within 5 %...which both NJ and Ohio fall into, has not been given up on by either candidate...
Welcome Home Mike! Enjoy your stay, thanks for your service, and God bless you and your loved ones!
I'm not worried at all.
I think Ohio is a consistent 3% lead for W...all the polls that have him down have more Democrats than Republicans polled...
and I am sure a good portion of those Democrats are the ultra liberal types in Cincy, Columbus and Cleveland, not the conservative ones in the outlying areas that also vote....
I'm in Ohio and I think I know why - there is so much voter fraud. It is awful here and there is just so much that can be done. College students have registered in mulitiple places. We have registrations larger than the census count of some precincts. Vote reminder cards for new and old voters are being returned at a rate as high as 9% because the addresses are ficticious. Some people are finding out when they check their mailboxes that there are ficticious voters registered at their addresses. It is really awful here. Perhaps Bush's team is concentrating on states where the fraud is not so prevalent and the vote will be honest. Bush can win Ohio with an honest vote, but with the fraud - I dunno. PS - Mike if you are in Iraq - God bless you!
Thank you!!!
I am soo glad to be getting out of here!!
I've heard the theory that Bush's last minute visit to Ohio with Arnold will tip the balance. This sounds to me like a "hail Mary" move by a campaign that believes they're behind (in Ohio) and have to resort to a gimmick.
Any thoughts?
Hi, Mike in Iraq!
Are you still there?
If so. Give my regards to the Military! I pray for you folks several times a day! You are to be honored for your good deeds!
Just wanted to tell you!
God Bless our Military!
God Bless George W. Bush!
I dont know...anything over about 1/2% will get noticed...
I figure that if the President goes to bed on the 1st with a 3% or more lead in most polls, he will win by at least 2%....
I think that since Ohio is THE swing state, President Bush will be there every day in the last 3-4 days before the election. Kerry will have to be in other states that he has to try to hold on to. He won't be able to be in Ohio. President Bush will have 100% of the attention of the Ohio voters and he will win the state. Just another rope-a-dope by Rove, Inc. :>)
To me it means he is bringing in his closer.....to use a baseball term....remember W was an owner (a good one too) and I would bet that he is thinking of it in those terms....
I am here for one more day and then its time for my leave :)
