Hi,
I do not know where you are from, but tougher attendance rules have been in place for three years here in Florida. A note, phone call, or some contact from parent when a child is absent is required. This rule, I believe, was a state mandate, not federal. HRS is called in if a child is absent for more than five days without a contact from a parent. As teachers, we are required to try to contact the parent after three days absence if the parents have not given the school a call. I believe these tougher rules are also a "safety issue" concerning missing children. Jeb Bush has done a great job in Florida! Concerning the "No Child Left Behind" act, this teacher is all for it! The fact that you are involved in your child's education is great! If all parents would be more involved and keep asking questions, things will improve even more! Many teachers are told by the unions that all of their problems from teaching curriculum to salaries are due to President Bush. Of course this isn't true! Many teachers I know are leaving NEA. I have hope that NEA membership will continue to decline!

Yes, but I am talking about the fact that they are requiring a written note from me when I show up with the child in the office to place her back in school the next day.
