Meet Ed Herman! Friday, October 22!

Sullivan's Irish Pub - 5:30-6:30pm 13368 Madison Avenue - Lakewood Suggested donation is $25 Light hors d'oeuvres and a free drink

Edward Fitzpatrick Herman fought on the front lines of the War On Terror in Afghanistan. As part of a highly trained military intelligence task force, Ed interrogated dozens of senior Al Qaeda operatives captured in Afghanistan, Pakistan and elsewhere around the world.

In recognition of his service Ed was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. A fluent Arabic speaker and Islamic affairs expert, Ed will bring to Congress a level of hands-on expertise in the War Against Terror that is unmatched in Washington.

Prior to being called back to active military duty from the reserves in the weeks following September 11, 2001, Ed was an international communications and government relations consultant in Cleveland and New York City. After returning from Afghanistan, Ed began working as a licensed real estate agent on Cleveland's West and South Sides.

A native of Fairview Park, Ed attended Saint Ignatius High School (class of 1992) and was a scholarship student at Fordham University (class of 1996).

He is also a graduate of the Defense Language Institute and the United States Army Intelligence Center. While in military service, Ed served at the United States Mission to the United Nations. In addition, he spent a year teaching English to children in the United Arab Emirates. Ed's father, Ed, is a retired Cleveland police officer, and his mother, Diane, is an active volunteer in the community.

Ed is a member of American Legion Post 451, Disabled American Veterans, the Cleveland Area Board of REALTORS, the Lakewood Republicans and the Lakewood Family YMCA Capital Campaign volunteer board. While in Afghanistan he was assigned or attached to the 101st Airborne Division, 10th Mountain Division, XVIII Airborne Corps, and the Army Intelligence and Security Command.

We will meet volunteers at 10:00am in the parking lot of Rocky River Memorial Hall (corner of Wagar and Hilliard) for a Rocky River Literature Drop. It is sponsored by the Greater Cleveland Young Republicans and will drop literature for Ed Herman, Senator Voinovich, Tim O'Malley and Dick Ambrose. Hope to see you there! Sullivan's Irish Pub Fundraiser this Friday, October 22.

Where in Ohio are you?

Hows the weather?

Can I get a job there? I'm an office manager for a law firm, I have an excellent resume and references, including 5 years working for R.H. Macy's.

How are housing prices?

Looking to escape from New Jersey ASAP.

Where in Ohio are you?

I live in suburban Cleveland.

Hows the weather?

I imagine it is pretty similar to New Jersey's. We get all four seasons and right now it is actually quite nice.

Can I get a job there? I'm an office manager for a law firm, I have an excellent resume and references, including 5 years working for R.H. Macy's.

The job market is also fair. Anecdotally, I do not know anyone who has had trouble getting a long term job. There are plenty of downtown law firms here.

How are housing prices?

Very reasonable. You can get a three bedroom colonial 15 minutes from downtown in a nice neighborhood for $125,000. We have a zoo, world class orchestra, affordable universities, and LeBron James. We are also ruled by a one party group of socialists.

I escaped from New Jersey (back) to Ohio a long time ago. Housing prices are a fraction of what you have to pay in Jersey, difference in traffic or the lack there of will astound you, most school systems (if you have kids) outside the major cities are good to excellent, and the weather is actually about the same or better. I still remember (with a shudder) one full month of plus 90 degree temperatures, 100 percent humidity, and no rain in Bergen County back in 1988. People joke about Ohio (not like New Jersey, the official "Butt of Humor State") but it's actually a good place to live and raise a family.

There are some top notch law firms with national and global reputations in Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati. The latter two cities have better economies but are in flavor more like southern rather than northern towns. I prefer the wooded hilly territory and milder summers, access to the the lake, and closeness to Amish country of northeast Ohio. Just come for a visit and drive around to see the place.

"world class orchestra"

Ah yes, you definately do have that, my dad said he thought it was the best in the country at one point.

Thanks for your replies, I will have to keep Ohio in mind.
