Hey hombre?
What is sombre?
I sit and I ponder,
Could he have meant somber?

What is sombre?

I guess it might pay to look in a dictionary before you make fun of the spelling in a newspaper, especially a newspaper from some other English speaking country. (And especially England! I know this is Canada, but they tend to follow the British spellings more than ours.) It turns out that the Oxford English Dictionary (I have the 2nd edition here.) does not even give somber as a variant spelling.
