Myself

Does anyone know how many E-4B we have in the USAF inventory? One just landed here at Ft. Huachuca.

The E-4B serves as the National Airborne Operations Center for the president and secretary of defense. In case of national emergency or destruction of ground command control centers, the aircraft provides a highly survivable, command, control and communications center to direct U.S. forces, execute emergency war orders and coordinate actions by civil authorities.

Background
The E-4B evolved from the E-4A, which had been in service since late 1974. The first B model was delivered to the Air Force in January 1980, and by 1985 all aircraft were converted to B models. All E-4B are assigned to the 55th Wing, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb.

It's amazing the type of aircraft we get to see here at a Army base. Libby Army airfield's runway was hardened and lengthen as the fourth or fifth back-up for the space shuttle recoveries.

Would this not come under sensitive information?

I guess not since COEXERJ145 found the info on a USAF web site.

Loose Lips Sink Ships. Please be careful what military information is posted. Remember this is a public forum.

Okay. Flame if you wish. Just my $0.02.

Does anyone remember a video from Sept. 11th where people are leaving either the Capitol or White House and they suddenly hear a jet aircraft? The camera turns as people look for the sound. Finally they see an E-4B climbing into the sky. Someone yells "My God, its the Doomsday Plane!".

My God, its the Doomsday Plane

I hadn't heard about that. But this is the doomsday plane. They adopted it when I was first in the AF. I'm thinking they kept one of them in the air 24/7 for a few years during the cold war. Like they did a handful of B-52s with nukes on board.

After remarking on the Doomsday plane, the crowd shouted as one, "Integrity, integrity, integrity..."

No. The aircraft in the services have tail numbers. There are many publications that ident and list all those in US and foreign service - past and present.

They can also be found on the web. For example 1980 US serials:
