Being George Steinbrenner
Biggest choke in sports history by the team with the biggest payroll in the biggest rivalry in sports. Needless to say it's a safe bet that George Steinbrenner is well on his way to insanity. Page 2 looks inside Steinbrenner's head to find out just how far along he is:
It's time to clean your monitor.
Here I thought you were just a Yankee hater. Come to find out you're a Red Sox fan. That explains everything. You guys have been losers for years. Well congrats. All I can say is, enjoy it while you can. It won't last forever. LOL
BS. You're the one who is naive.
as a Cleveland native I enjoy watching Steinbrenner go down.
but can't root for the KerrySox either.
GO CARDS
No one is "overlooking the success of the Yankees", but pointing (yet AGAIN) to how successful they have been is no way to respond when someone points out (rightfully) that they CHOKED, bad.
A-Rod and Sheffield came to the Yankees to win a championship, and they're known to be unselfish team players? OK, I'll assume that's true. I'll tell you something though, if I was making $25 million a year whether my team even made it into the playoffs or not, I might have a little trouble getting motivated.
Like I said, money can buy you a bunch of all-stars, but it can't by you heart and the desire to win. If anything, that's what Boston showed themselves to possess, and in far greater measure than the vaunted Yanks.
Lastly, the whole world has had to watch Yankees fans spit all over Boston fans for a long, long time. It is high time that they got their comeuppance (is that even how you spell it?). There's nothing wrong with a little humility, and that is true no matter how good or how successful you are. And if there's one thing most Yankees fans lack (besides intelligence, proper grammar, and civility - OK, just having a little rhetorical fun there, don't get all bent), it's humility.
Yes, pathetic, wasn't it? It was even more so when you consider how obvious it was that A-Rod deliberately swatted at Arroyo's glove to knock the ball loose. I think everyone in the stadium, except for the 1st base ump whose view was blocked by Mentkiewicz (sp?), could see it all very clearly.
You would think that decent, knowledgeable fans would have conceded that their boy tried to cheat, and got nailed for it. After all, how many times have you seen that play, where the pitcher has the ball and gets in the basepath between the hitter and 1st, and it results either in a simple tag, or the runner tries to avoid him and gets called out for being out of the baseline? You don't see a hitter trying to run the pitcher down, as if the pitcher was a catcher blocking home plate. It was a ridiculous play on A-Rod's part, but those slack-jawed, mouth-breathing cretins in the stands acted as if some injustice had been done to them and their team.
Really? It's "part of the game" to do what any 8-year old watching the game knew was cheating, without having to consult a rulebook?
EVERYONE would have done the same thing A-Rod did? Really? Then why is it such a big deal? And why haven't I ever seen hitters swatting balls out of pitcher's gloves on their way to first base in an attempt to avoid being tagged out? Back in the old days, they'd do things like trying to run around the tag (which is legal if you don't go out of the baseline).
Your defense of A-Rod is disturbingly along the lines of, "Everybody does it" or "Everybody WOULD do it, if they could." Between this and your inclination to label anyone who questions you a Yankee "hater", I'd have to say you're a liberal.
Okay, I'll cut you some slack.
>>>>What are you, a liberal or something, accusing people of "hating" simply because they question your remarks?.
Here I was just warming up to you and you go and spoil everything. LOL. You've been here since 1998. You should know better then to make such juvenile statements. Well, maybe not.
Look bucko, I'm going to defend the Yanks at every opportunity. Whether the Yanks blew it against Boston, or whether you call it a choke, the history of baseball is important to the sport. And so are the Yankees! PERIOD!
>>>>Lastly, the whole world has had to watch Yankees fans spit all over Boston fans for a long, long time. It is high time that they got their comeuppance (is that even how you spell it?).
I'm sorry, but I don't hold the same vicious nature you have when it comes to pro sports. I never spit on any Red Sox fans. Never. Teddy Baseball, Yaz and Fisk were three of my favorite Red Sox players. That type of rhetoric shows no class on your part. In fact, it says you're no better then the Yankee fans who feel that way.
>>>>Like I said, money can buy you a bunch of all-stars, but it can't by you heart and the desire to win. If anything, that's what Boston showed themselves to possess, and in far greater measure than the vaunted Yanks.
It's quite obvious you don't know anything about professional athletes. When most pro athletes step on the playing field, all they want is to win. Money is important in the world today. Money is important in all of sports. Baseball included. Money is a lot more important today, then it was when I first started following the Yankees during the era of Mantle, Maris, Ford and Berra. The Yankees of the '90`s didn't win those four WS in five years because they were more interested in money then the winning a championship.
>>>>And if there's one thing most Yankees fans lack .... it's humility.
This series has humbled the Yankee players, the organization and its humbled their their fans too. But its just a game. The more important event comes on Nov2!
>>>>>Between this and your inclination to label anyone who questions you a Yankee "hater", I'd have to say you're a liberal.
Is that all you have. You make derogatory remarks about the Yankees, to a lifelong Yankee fan and you expect me to sit silently, while you keep bashing away at my team. Then to top it off, you show your total ignorance by calling me a liberal. I'm conservative to the core and a loyal Republican to boot. I tried to cut you some slack here, but it would appear you want an all out flame war. Well have at it. Better yet, control your emotions.
My apologies, I have not seen the commercial.
Bonds is breaking down but not at Giambi's rate. He's a hitting machine though and I can't get over how rarely he doesn't swing at strikes
I don't hate the Yankees, why should I? These guys aren't the cast of characters from years gone past and in fact, they are rather boring.
This is what I believe. I've read all the posts on this thread and I've been around here for a while. The Yankees are either loved, hated or at the very least respected by people who know baseball. In this specific case, its been my experience that when someone takes the opportunity to post an anti-Yankee thread, or post to an anti-Yankee thread, its a good bet that person holds some level of animosity towards the Yankee players, fans or ownership. Perhaps all three. My original reaction was to defend the Yankees and the best way to do that is to bring up their great winning tradition and the hope for a bright future next year. And I've done both. Also, I congratulated the Red Sox on top everything.
WTF do you guys want? BLOOD! LOL The hatred for the Yankees is oozing throughout this thread. Like it or not, that is the truth.
I still hate the Yankees though
Great googly-moogly! The "Human Rain Delay?" I'm so old I remember him playing...
That's what I get for being out of touch. Thanks!
Until the sun winks out, last nights loss will stand as the record for playoff failure. You can't choke any worse in a 7 game play-off than to be up 3 and lose 4. There is no loss worse than that. The Yankees will always own that record since other teams can only equal it and never do worse and the Yankees did it first.
Spoken like a true Yankee hater!
