Interesting. You can't sue a police officer who was supposed to keep your relative from being killed but didn't, but the police can sue a ballistic armor company for making a garment that's supposed to resist bullet impacts but doesn't, or doesn't enough.

So will the cops or soldiers who can't get armor get it from the trial lawyers association?

Uh, what? How does this relate to the story? And why wouldn't you sue the PERP responsible for killing your relative?

Its not really part of the story but since you brought it up...Too bad the perpetrator of the crime can't be held accountable. Your assumption that the Police Department can't be sued is not all correct. Departments and Cities have been sued over this issue and have paid out.

It's not really very interesting, even from a libertopian standpoint.

The cops never made a contract with you, they never promised to protect you.

They DID make a contract with the body armor folks to purchase armor meeting certain specifications.

If you think fraud is unacceptable, you might be a libertarian. If you think it's okay to defraud the government, you might be a libertopian...
