At a history class, a professor mockingly tells a female Jewish student she cannot possibly have ancestral ties to Israel because her eyes are green.
During a lecture, a professor of Arab politics refuses to answer a question from an Israeli student and military veteran but instead asks the student, "How many Palestinians have you killed?"
At a student meeting on the topic of divestment from Israel, a Jewish student is singled out as responsible for death of Palestinian Arabs.
Those scenes are described by current and former students interviewed for an underground documentary that is causing a frisson of concern to ripple through the Morningside Heights campus of Columbia University, where the incidents took place.
The film, about anti-Israel sentiment at the school, has not yet been released to the public, but it has been screened for a number of top officials of Columbia, and talk of its impact is spreading rapidly on a campus where some students have complained of anti-Israel bias among faculty members.
"The movie is shocking," one Columbia senior, Ariel Beery, said.
"It is shocking to see blatant use of racial stereotypes by professors and intimidation tactics by professors in order to push a distinct ideological line on the curriculum," Mr. Beery, who was interviewed for the film, said......[snip]
Here's a story. I attended one of the most liberal prestigious schools in NYC. Heavy duty liberal ideology and faculty.
I had a Russian history teacher who taught a great 2 part course on the Czars and the Soviets. This was 1986. Lots of discussions about Reagan and Gorbachev.
One day the teacher asked the class to make a choice. Did we think the Soviet Union was:
a). A misunderstood nation unfairly labeled
b). a nation whose leaders were posturing with stregth legitimately to balance the might of the US
c). an evil empire hellbent on expansion and conquering the world
the majority of the class split even between A and B
3 people picked C, myself, one other student, and the teacher.
I bet your daughter can find one teacher among the rest of the liberal idiots to find solace with and to take up her side.
also, your daughter may not like the heat, but Sean Hannity LOVES stories like this. He would definitely contact the teacher and challenge him to come on the air.
Is this the Brinkley who wrote the Kerry book?
Since they're leftists like Kerry, I expect the faculty and adminstration at Columbia will promote this documentary and its point of view in the same way that Kerry would - by threatening to sue the filmmakers, sending proxies and goons out to the media to smear and slime them, threatening any students who would watch it with failing grades, etc.
Education used to be worth something in this country. It is truly worth a wet turd these days. I see no reason for kids to even go to college if they desire to get a true education. In fact, I own several businesses and prefer to hire people who have not been run through "the wringer." I can teach them what I need to about business and suggest other sources for the rest.
If you think of it, most of the college coursework that is required these days is nonsense plain and simple. It's the handful of practical stuff that really means much and most of that can be learned via other methods. I highly recommend internet correspondence coursework these days.
To learn to write it is easier to simply begin doing it. Math and science are two of the lone exceptions during the grade school years and during the introductory courses at college. More and more students seem to be standing up for themselves. I can't wait to hear the stories, upcoming no doubt, about how these teachers get challenged by a student(s) who ask them to explain why they are so hateful right in front of their own class and why they are so intolerant of other points of view.
It seems like it's just getting interesting...
Many of our enemies are diabolically clever and must not be underestimated. I even pretend Kerry is a Dr. Moriarity.
No, I was in the Marines. But I have an inordinately unhealthy fascination with Cold War nuclear stuff. I sometimes send out ZOT alerts using either an EAM format or a JANAP 128 message, complete with Command Word, Designator, and Day Words from the movie "By Dawns Early Light."
SEND-TO-DRUDGE
This is amazing stuff.
My question is: Don't the Jewish students and faculty outnumber the radical leftists? (Of course I recognize the irony that the radical left has been the special province of Jewish activists over the years, creating a quandry for many now that the most radical elements are anit-Semitic)
Still, with their numbers and special place in Columbia and her academic history, how can they have let this happen?
I don't really keep up although I have Spectator on my favorites list. Ping list would be cool. I've enjoyed your Conservatives at Columia newsletter.
Provost Alan Brinkly is a historian and head of the History Department. You are thinking of David Brinkley.
Lets start using the term fascists, brown shirts and racists when we talk about these people. Bias just isnt a strong enough word.

Er, not quite. The late David Brinkley was a television commentator. Douglas Brinkley wrote the Kerry book (I just checked at amazon). Alan is (I think) Douglas's brother and both are sons of David. (But I could be wrong.)
I started out as an enlisted Marine (up to E5), then got a commission in the AF and spent most of my time till retirement in Minuteman missile ops and airborne command and control (the old SAC Looking Glass). I used to be one of the voices on the sending end of those EAMs.
