SAUCE FOR THE GOOSE

There's much contorversy in Arizona over a ballot initiative, Proposition 200 , that would require proof of citizenship when registering to vote, proof of identity when actually voting, and proof of legal status when applying for government benefits (those benefits not mandated by federal law, like emergency room care). All the usual suspects are against it, including big business, big labor, and big religion, along with the Democratic governor, "Republican" John McCain, and of course, The Wall Street Journal. So imagine my surprise when I read in yesterday's Arizona Republic that Mexico has had these very requirements in law for many years. In the words of a spokesman for the Mexican agency that oversees immigration, "Every agency has its own regulations, but generally, that's the rule. To receive these government services, you have to prove you are in the country legally."

Mexico must have better economists than we do... If we followed these rules, American taxpayers could cut their tax bills by several billion dollars every year.

Our politicians pander to Mexico. Why don't Mexican politicians pander to America? (no punch line - just a sick feeling)

I strongly believe that every state should be mandated to have people show proof of citizenship to register and proof of identity to vote. Period.

To do anything less is shear stupidity.

What right do we have to complain. After all we're just Americans. We have to play by a different set of rules. /sarcasm

I wouldn't be surprised to learn that illegal aliens in Mexico are not given welfare benefits---but rather find themselves in a dark jail cell. If not lined up against a wall.

The real kicker to this is that Mexico's benefits are a drop in the bucket to ours, but Mexicans must prove they're a citizen before they get that drop.

Our welfare benefits are an ocean of taxpayer money, and you don't have to do a damn thing to get it - just be here!

America is becoming the flophouse/welfare office for the world. I'm getting sick of paying for these bloodsuckers.

Mexico has a national voter photo ID, which is used as proof of ID for opening bank accounts, telephone service, cashing checks and other things. When they go to the polls to vote they must show their ID. At the polling place they have a book with the voters picture as a double check against fraud. As far as welfare you must be a Mexican. Its about $7.00 U.S. dollars per month per child. This is a new program started this year by President Vicente Fox.

Amen. So, what do we do about it? I'm serious. I think our country is at risk of great peril and I can't stand to see elections decided by Chicagoland graveyards (and Bronx graveyards and Duval County, Texas graveyards, etc.).

I passed on some information about taxes, and not paying them a while ago.

Just wanna let everyone know that might have bought their books that I drove past their office in Seal Beach the other day.

Boarded up and lights are out.

Guess the Gov't decided to prosecute...another approach might be necessary. The Federalis did her like they did the medical cannibis centers in LA. Let 'em run for a while and collect names for the *.DBA filez.

Watch your six everyone...

Thanks for the info! Didn't buy one. I've decided to become an illegal alien so I won't have to mess with the IRS.
