Carter says American Revolution 'unnecessary'

Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004 Jimmy Carter: American Revolution Was 'Unnecessary'

Recently we described Jimmy Carter as the worst president of the past 100 years. We apologize.

He's the worst president ever.

In trying to compare the American Revolution to the war in Iraq, here's what the jug-headed Georgian said to fellow Democrat Chris Matthews on "Hardball" Monday night, according to MSNBC's own transcript:

'A Little More Sensitive'

Well, one parallel is that the Revolutionary War, more than any other war up until recently, has been the most bloody war we've fought. I think another parallel is that in some ways the Revolutionary War could have been avoided. It was an unnecessary war. Had the British Parliament been a little more sensitive to the colonials' really legitimate complaints and requests the war could have been avoided completely, and of course now we would have been a free country now as is Canada and India and Australia, having gotten our independence in a nonviolent way.

I think in many ways the British were very misled in going to war against America and in trying to enforce their will on people who were quite different from them at the time.

Does the catastrophic ex-prez really think the war in Iraq is bloodier than the Vietnam War, the Korean War, World War II, World War I, the Civil War ...?

Note to Jimmy: Canada did not begin to gain independence until 1867. Australia did not receive partial independence as a commonwealth until 1901. India did not gain independence until 1947, and all the Indians who were killed by the British would hardly describe their deaths as "nonviolent."

"Oh but he was one of our most intelligent presidents--remember?"

Yeah...and so was Clinton, supposedly, yet he doesn't even know when he's having sex. How smart can he be?

More proof that Carter has become terribly senile.

The Louisiana Purchase would never have happened so there would be a huge Quebec streching from Quebec to New Orleans.

Alot of this probably would have been taken by the British during/after the Napoleonic wars. Some of the western parts might still have been sold, if he could have found a buyer, perhaps Spain. But all in all, yes it would have been a very, very different continent and world.

Does the piece of traitorous filth formerly known as President Carter really think that "negotiations" would work?

If only there had been a United Nations back in the 1770s, all of our problems would have been solved without a single drop of blood being shed, dontcha know.

Gah!
Unbelievable! We should have waited for them to see the light and release us?!?! Ummm, Jimmy, why would they have done that?
And about the Civil War? I do believe it has been our bloodiest.

GAH!

( He was my Governor before this! )

In a nutshell, Jerry Ford's pardon of Nixon poisoned him for many people.

Carter ran as a Washington Oursider, which has great appeal, even now. He also claimed to be "eglatarian."

He was the only President who ran against an incumbent who wasn't elected.

Also, the economy was terrible and President Ford was perceived by many as corrupt because he pardoned everyone from the Nixon administration.

He also was touted as a true evangelical Christian, which I'm sure gained many votes from conservatives who (foolishly, as it turned out) believed he'd actually govern like one.

Yeah, darnit, that's very true. We in Georgia are still finding bitter fruit from his "legacy" as a "reform Governor." I forgot to mention that one leg of his platform ( eerily like Clinton, later ) was making a big deal about all the allegedly successful reforms he'd driven through as Governor.

What he did was take small, scattered offices that were dispersed across the State, and weld them into big, centralized bureaucracies in Atlanta.

Carter should learn some history. Canada has representative government largely because of rebellions in 1837 in both Upper and Lower Canada.
