I'm not RC so correct me if I'm wrong, but according to basic tenets of the faith, isn't the Pope infallible on matters of faith?

Kerry said in the debates that he was a Catholic but the people who were saying abortion is a sin are wrong.

So Kerry says the Pope is wrong. How does that work?
