Rosie the Riveter has given way to Sally the Sniveler. During World War II, young Rose Will Monroe was the face of American women in adversity: strong, supportive, and resolute against the enemy forces that threatened our existence. Tens of thousands like Rosie rolled up their sleeves, gritted their teeth, and flexed their muscles in factories and shipyards and arsenals across the country. They made rockets and rifles and bombs and boats. They painted and drilled and welded. When they got home to their kids, they cooked and cleaned and collapsed in bed after praying for their husbands and brothers and uncles on the battlefield. Rosie and her sisters in arms didn't have the luxury of complaining about their lack of "me time." There was a war to be won. And so, as this presidential campaign season has constantly reminded us, there is today. But Rosie is gone.

For some people, still the wrong war, wrong place, wrong time. Historically, WW II was not all that universely popular, either. But people did their job because the alternative of whining about the dreadful state of things was not a luxury permitted to anybody.

Michelle is right as usual. After what I have seen from the Hollywood crowd and women celebreties, I have sworn off movies, regular television, anything that would put money in a celebrity's pocket. It won't be hard, haven't seen any ads for TV shows or movies that would interest me.
I just wish at one of these rallies, a "regular woman" like me would just walk up to the "celeb du jour" and ask them what credentials they have to speak on any subject that involves more than thinking about themselves for 5 minutes.

An excellent argument for declaring war. Had we come right out and declared war against Iraq then it would be quite clear what these people really are.

In battleground states, the Kerry campaign has dispatched such incoherent nervous nellies to scare the pantyhose of off young women and moms. I so love Michelle....

Sally the Sniveler, that is cool. That could make a great graphic title.
To: alloysteel
My mother was one of the "Rosie the Riveter" ladies during WWII. She used to tell us about some of the planes she worked on. "Sally the Sniveler" does not know what these women went through. These cry babies have no idea about hard work or what it took for these women to carry on with the men being gone.

"That is not fair," she said. "Let me tell you what my brother is going to fight for pay equity." That's a tired, 70's argument. It might have had some validity then. Now it is empty and hollow against a backdrop of REAL concerns, concerns that there are people out there whose life mission is to see us dead. Too bad they have so much support from "our" side.

"If we lose the White House again, it is very possible we will lose public education." Only in our fondest dreams.
"If (Bush) is re-elected, he will appoint a (Justice) Clarence Thomas clone and reverse Roe versus Wade."
Wish I had some of her optimism.
""We have a voice now, and we're not using it"
Oh really? Then what is that annoying clanging and screeching I hear every time I turn on the TV?
"we could lose the right to our bodies"
Translation: we might not be able to kill our babies anymore, and then what? We'd actually have consequences for irresponsible sexual behavior. Perish the thought!
" if you think that rape should be legal, then don't vote."
What the h*ll has that got to do with anything???

And in her place, we have Hysterical Women for Kerry. They are self-absorbed celebrities who support banning all guns (except the ones their bodyguards use to protect them and their children).

Meanwhile, a teacher for Kerry complained: "If we lose the White House again, it is very possible we will lose public education." Looks like a good reason to vote for Pres. Bush.

My sister-in-law was, too. Her husband was in the army and she worked in a factory, probably in Rome, NY.
