I said, is do you think a man is worth getting paid 200 millon or more to play baseball, when most americans get paid 8 or 9 bucks an hour to sweat there butts off!!!

How hard people work, when comparing different professions, has nothing to do with their pay (it obviously matters a lot WITHIN professions.)

The reality is any American making 9 dollars an hour is making 9 dollars an hour, regardless of how hard they're working, because they can be easily replaced by the next person walking down the street in their job. You could not replace a major league shortstop with the next person walking down the street.

Countries have already tried to mandate pay based on notions of how hard people work and such..such as the Soviet Union, where Coal Miners were paid far more than doctors or a lot of professionals...it didn't work out very well.

Not rich at all. But the great thing about this country is that there is the possibility that I could be. You don't have to watch them play baseball. And if you only making 8 or 9 dollars an hour then it's up you, yourself to make yourself more valuable to employers and improve your salary. A-Rod got paid that amount of money because he has the ability and talent to make that kind of money. That's not ludicrous its capitalism at its finest.

I do believe however that baseball loses something by not having an even playing field for all the teams across all the markets the way that football does. With salary caps.(I'm looking for word here, but can't think of it at the moment.) But Football has a more even level of competition and, because any team could win it and be competitive on any year the sport is stronger as a whole, whereas a lot of small market baseball fans are disenfranchised by the disparity between their teams and the Yankees.

Well Im not saying that Im worth the money that I make, Im saying how in the world can a person make that kind of money playing ball!! Thats why I cant even afford to go to a game anymore!! Its the same as NASCAR racing, they have jacked the tickets so high, that the average Americn cant go!! I think I will quit watching all pro sports!!

Now I'm really hoping that the 7 - Y thing turns into a cliche'

The last time I went to a Pats' game I was bored silly, but I'm a huge Pats fan. You don't realize how much time there is between plays for commercial timeouts. Save the money you would have spent going to the games and buy yourself a plasma TV. You see more of the action that way.

Yes, it is a shame that prices driving some of the fans away from the game. I usually make the sox a few times a year, but I somehow always manage to scam free seats from my company. I probably wouldn't to pay to go...

True...home field, ice or court is a plus. That said while the pressure has been on sox the last three nights tomorrow the I think Yankees will be feeling a tightening of the collars. Losing tomorrow is not just another game for the Yanks. It would be a choke of major proportions.
