Back Together Again: Original Duran Duran

NEW YORK - They played the obligatory classics: "Hungry Like the Wolf" and "Girls on Film." But when Simon Le Bon ripped into the chorus of the new single "(Reach Up for the) Sunrise," the sun suddenly illuminated Times Square as if to officially mark a new day for Duran Duran.

As the original five members performed for "Good Morning America" last week, it seemed the planets had finally aligned for a band that had been ignored through its ever-changing lineup and lackluster albums of the past ten years.

The British quintet once created a fan hysteria that was compared to the Beatles', and they are largely credited for ushering in the music video age with their innovative and exotic clips. Still, until recently, they couldn't buy the sort of publicity they're now enjoying.

"We are really pleased to be back in the history books where for a while it looked as though we were being written out of them," Le Bon told The Associated Press, commenting on the Lifetime Achievement award MTV finally bestowed upon the video pioneers last year and the sudden excitement over Duran Duran's 12th album, "Astronaut."

All this talk is making me remember I havent been to a good live musical concert in awhile. Im used to catching a good band every couple weeks or so.

Nothing beats a good live tight band.

My special interests have been guitarists...bass guitar and jazz rock fusion. I worked through school way back playing lead in numerous bands and such.

John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. :) Two released singles..."Summer Lovin'" and "You're The One That I Want" from the GREASE soundtrack. Both went to #1.

Save A Prayer

My very favorite DD song among many greats....thought I might be the only person to remember it! I grew up in a small town, with one radio station (that came in)...and, naturally, they played mostly 70's rock. So, I have a huge tape collection of all of the bands at the time...and the great thing was, with cassettes, you ended up listening to the whole thing! Lots of great songs on some of those albums.

I also love metal, but these songs are always guaranteed to make me happy when I hear them.

I was thinking Paul McC and Mike Jax for those lovely ballads "Say, Say, Say" and "The Girl is Mine" but one reached 2 and the other number 1.

I have another one. Bob Geldof led Live Aid in 1985. What band was he rumored to have said "Who the hell is that?" when he saw them listed as a performer?

Here is a hint: They were a Philly band and they played in the Philadelphia part of the 2-continent show.
