NEW YORK - They played the obligatory classics: "Hungry Like the Wolf" and "Girls on Film." But when Simon Le Bon ripped into the chorus of the new single "(Reach Up for the) Sunrise," the sun suddenly illuminated Times Square as if to officially mark a new day for Duran Duran.
As the original five members performed for "Good Morning America" last week, it seemed the planets had finally aligned for a band that had been ignored through its ever-changing lineup and lackluster albums of the past ten years.
The British quintet once created a fan hysteria that was compared to the Beatles', and they are largely credited for ushering in the music video age with their innovative and exotic clips. Still, until recently, they couldn't buy the sort of publicity they're now enjoying.
"We are really pleased to be back in the history books where for a while it looked as though we were being written out of them," Le Bon told The Associated Press, commenting on the Lifetime Achievement award MTV finally bestowed upon the video pioneers last year and the sudden excitement over Duran Duran's 12th album, "Astronaut."

Can't forget the other "greats"... The Cure and Depeche Mode, (although, I don't like Depeche Mode's anti-God songs), the rest was good.
I bought a Missing Persons greatest hits cd back in
1995 as I remember. The mastering was rubbish though, the
cymbals sounded like trash can lids.
There were alot of good , tight, musical bands in the 80's.
One fav band was INXS...dyn-no-mite!
Recently, I drug out my old homebrew video tape of the LIVE AID concert, recorder in 85 I believe. Besides Duran Duran, there was the group POWER STATION. Trivia question...what members of Duran Duran were in POWER STATION. Also, what other famous British pop singer sang with Power Station...then went on to a single career...(Addicted to Love...hint)
Oh oh oh oh.... its on the tip of my tongue. Dang it I can't remember.
Okay..times up it was Robert Palmer.
Power Station was the Taylor brothers all, plus two different singers at different times (Palmer and ???)
Unlike Morrisey .... Grrrrrrrrrr..... just the mere thought ..... BARF!
Here's another music trivia question: Name three drummers who recorded with Robert Plant who are now deceased. John Bonham is the easy one.
OH HELL YEAH!! 1980's music BUMP! I saw DD last year in concert in Atlanta--yes, the original lineup--they rocked the place (PACKED house, BTW)! It was awesome! Hungry Like The Wolf, The Reflex (crowd went INSANE when they did that one), RIO, Save A Prayer, Union of the Snake, etc, etc.
Dont know...but did any of them also play with Spinal Tap by chance...
"View to a Kill" was great tune and opened a James Bond movie.
I don't think so. But one played in Power Station.
Andy Taylor and John Taylor
Time to dig out my "Members Only" jacket......
Rodney Dangerfield's line was that he was the only person ever turned down for one.
Michael Des Barres. Best-known as "Murdoc" on MACGYVER.
This brings back memories. I remember lying in bed at night listening to an all-Duran Duran radio station back in the 80s and practically falling asleep at school the next day.
Oh yeah? What other band did the DD members who did NOT record with Power Station form?? ;)
Not all the Taylors. PS drummer was Tony Thompson from Chic.
I give.
