Kerry: Clinton May Campaign on My Behalf
Associated Press ^

Democratic Sen. John Kerry said Tuesday that former President Clinton may be hitting the trail to campaign for him in the final two weeks before Election Day.

Clinton has spent the last six weeks recovering from heart surgery, with his doctors instructing him to get plenty of rest. Kerry campaign officials have eagerly awaited word whether Clinton could get out to personally encourage voters to support the Democratic presidential nominee.

Kerry told a Pennsylvania TV station that Clinton may come help him in the state where polls showed the Democrat tied with President Bush.

"I think it's possible in the next days former President Clinton may be here, working," Kerry told WGAL, the NBC affiliate in Lancaster.

Kerry adviser Mike McCurry, who served as press secretary in the Clinton administration, said no decisions have been made whether Clinton can campaign and that Kerry was only "expressing a hope."

"If he is able to travel, we would like him to consider Pennsylvania among other locations, but we have not had a firm answer on whether he was able to campaign or not," McCurry said.

Only an idiot like Kerry could consider this a good thing.

Considering that a few years ago, whenever Clinton hit the campaign trail for a candidate, they lost. John should worry.

I do not think there is wide spread love for Mr. Clinton. (Having said that I hope he recovers well.)

I don't know. Clinton is still pretty popular among Democrats and moderates. This might help Kerry a little

I'm guessing that Kerry is hoping that Clinton will have a heart attack as he's trashing Bush, and that the Dems will get their somber state funeral afterall, right on the eve of the election, thereby tipping the election to Kerry. On the other hand, even if they do, Clinton might resurface after the election, none the worse for wear.
