The Dalton Gang's Last Raid, 1892 Around 9:30 the morning of October 5, 1892 five members of the Dalton Gang (Grat Dalton, Emmett Dalton, Bob Dalton, Bill Powers and Dick Broadwell) rode into the small town of Coffeyville, Kansas. Their objective was to achieve financial security and make outlaw history by simultaneously robbing two banks.

We did get up to Minnesota on one of our trips. My dear husband let me take us to Walnut Grove, MN and from there on into DeSmet, SD where the Ingalls family had also lived. I think he actually enjoyed some of the museums. I loved the Badlands. They were beautiful. It was dark by the time we got to Mt. Rushmore, so I got to see it lit at night. It was pretty but the Badlands just impressed me so with it's display of nature's power. We ran up and saw the Devil's Tower and drove on through Yellowstone. We did see many things during our trips that I wouldn't trade now for anything. I remember that the Mississippi was a beautiful blue the day we crossed it leaving LaCross, WI. The leaves were turning beautiful colors and it was impressive.
A good magazine that my husband had subscribed to and I plan to keep it coming is "Wild West" magazine. They have many interesting articles about some of the more interesting characters and events. Anyone who loves the west, might enjoy this magazine also.
If you ever get a chance to go to Meade, Kansas check out the Gangs hideout, its pretty cheesy,as most small town museum tend to be but it does have some neat things like a tunnel the gang used and there original hideout.
Will he be doing one about Dodge City?
Back in the early '90's, the financial institution I worked for bought a bank in Duncan, S.C. which was allegedly robbed twice in one week by the Dalton Gang.
I visited the branch along with a co-worker to measure the building and the iron daygate to the vault was tied open with a "do-rag", and the vault was arranged where customers had to sep over bags of cash and coin to get to their safe deposit boxes. My coworker untied the rag and closed the gate and we went outside for an exterior survey. When we came back in, the gate was again tied open with the rag, so "we" shredded the rag and asked the manager not to allow that to happen again until we rearranged the vault.
I can see how the Daltons would have struck them twice.
And they probably also understood that being passive, as today's authorities always advise us to be, encourages further unlawful behavior by other criminals.
I guess there's a parallel in today's world situation. One which GW understands, but Kerry does not. Or pretends not.
You should go to the Dalton Gang Hideout in Meade, Kansas it has some interesting items and gives you a up close look at there home and hideout. Also while your in that neighborhood you could swing up to Dodge City and Check out Boothill, they are both kind of cheesy but some good history can be learned.
Apparently 2 of the Daltons were in law enforcement before becoming robbers. Some things never change.
Good point on the Civil War experience of those folks. That put them in good stead, didn't it? That's another warning for us from the past, too; not only can one not take freedom for granted, one cannot even take safety for granted. Seems like Leftists just want to turn us all into sissies. History has lots of examples of defenseless folks who get slaughtered. Not only are they not prepared for war, they are not even prepared to defend home and hearth! That's not the American way.
Saw OPEN RANGE last night (Rober Duvall). Another example of law and order, American style. Are you listening, Al Qaida? The American spirit showed through loud and clear in this film. May it ever be so. We are killing our enemies at a rate of about a hundred a day in gun fights very similar to the ones in OPEN RANGE, THE WILD BUNCH, and the very real Dalton Raid in Kansas. I suppose we could have dropped an atom bomb at the start, but that seems politically incorrect nowadays. Pray for our soldiers that they may make a clean sweep of things not only in Iraq, but around the globe. Our lives depend on it. Attention Gun Control advocates; terrorism is playing in a neighborhood near you. (Ask the Russians for details).
