Sen. John Kerry "Excommuniacted," According To Vatican Response
Kennedy, Harkin, Cuomo, Collins Denounced for Heresy
Santa Monica, Ca - A Los Angeles based expert in Canon Law, the legal code used by the Roman Catholic Church, announced Friday on EWTN's the World Over Live with Raymond Arroyo that an important Vatican congregation has given an unprecedented boost to his case for heresy against presidential candidate John Kerry. Marc Balestrieri, JCL who has filed a formal case for heresy against Kerry in his support for the right to abortion, revealed that he has received a written response prompted by the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, affirming that Catholic politicians who persist in supporting the right to abortion are "automatically excommunicated."
"...one is automatically excommuniactred according to Can. 1364, 1."

Please read the entire article.
It looks like the Vatican has grown tired of Kerry's pro-abortion stance and is on the verge of doing something decisive about it....Excommunication!
They aren't kidding anymore, and they shouldn't.
Time to give Kerry the boot.

What about Catholics who've actually HAD abortions? A blanket excommunication for them?

What about Catholics who've actually HAD abortions? I would recommend asking Jesus Christ for forgivenss through prayer, and relying on his payment on the cross for grace and payment of the penalty of sin.
That is the reason he went willingly to the cross--to save us.

If anyone has HAD an abortion and they seek genuine forgiveness God will forgive them. It wouldn't matter what any human said about that. None of us as perfect.
As for John Kerry, he continues to sin and seeks NO repentance. He should be thrown out of the church. The next problem is to have a church enforce THIS excommunication.

I'm not Catholic, but isn't there a diffrence between supporting, lobbying and encouraging abortion, and someone who makes a poor choice once?
To: Laissez-faire capitalist
Odd, isn't it that Someone Like John Kerry has no problem with aborting the unborn, but has problems with the execution of mass murderes .

John Kerry could be compared to the one who peddles crack cocaine to users in that he is a political standard bearer for abortion rights(as a politician) and that those who have abortions are like those who use the crack cocaine.
Rough analogy, but close to the point.
One should deal more severely with the peddler, not the one being peddled to.

Yes, the difference comes through the sacrament of penance.

I believe that the Catholic Church will enfore this one(excommunication of Kerry), as they should.

I'm not Catholic, but isn't there a diffrence between supporting, lobbying and encouraging abortion, and someone who makes a poor choice once? I wouldn't get in the game of ranking sins. Seeking forgiveness is the difference Christ asks for.

I'm a Roman Catholic who has seen a lot of fringe "catholic" groups making charges and counter charges. But this takes the cake. This is pure balderdash. No Catholic is going to believe we now have a new dogma defined to be the condemnation of abortion. It just isn't so. How these "documents" come to be and how he gets on EWTN is mysterious to me. But this is all bunk.
It is true that anyone who procures a direct abortion is automatically excommunicated, this is not interpreted to extend to politicians. Politicians who are supporting abortion who are Catholic are still within the Church but they are guilty of sin to such a degree as to put their soul in mortal danger. To die without going to confession will deliver them to hell and the devils torments.

I agree with ALPAPilot. If a woman who had an abortion earlier comes to the church with a repentant heart and asks forgiveness, the church will give her the sacrament of Reconciliation and she will be welcomed back. The church never turns away anyone with a willing heart to change.
OTOH - if a person continues in a state of sin (lacking in a state of grace) because of acts contrary to Catholic teaching, then they are simply Catholic in name only. If they continue unrepentant - even boisterous about their position - then there truly are grounds for this severe measure of excommunication.

Yes there is the question of "informed conscience" or uninformed conscience. But being uniformed doesn't get you off the hook either for sure. There is the question of whether or not you are willingly uniformed as to the gravity of the act. You may be guilty of being willfully ignorant. The Holy Spirit can discern the soul!

No you are wrong they are excommunicated. Read the article again.

Excommunication! This wouldn't hurt Kerry overall. He'd lose Catholics but would probably double up on non-Catholics who fear Kerry following the Pope's orders. Kerry has no spine and would welcome ex-communication if his internal polling showed one additional voter.

If you read the document you will see the claim made that this is now a Dogma of the Faith.
That simply is not true. There are only a handful, at most, dogmas. This letter is way off base.

I am not Catholic but am so glad to hear that the C. Church is standing up for what it believes. I hope they enforce it for the rest of the pro death C. politicians too. This would show that they really do believe what they say. Hope this makes the news big time. Was Kerry ever really someone who believed he is C. or was he just using the Church? If he really cares about his Church this should cause him discomfort and help him to understand the error of his ways. A clear line must be drawen or no one will understand how wicked abortion is.
