Israel is preparing for military action against Iran's Bushehr nuclear reactor and other nuclear facilities, including underground plans and storage depots, US defense officials say.

Officials said a transfer of 5,000 bombs in Israel is likely preparation for the attacks.

For Israel
nuclear weapons in Iran are far more intolerable
than missiles in Cuba were
for the USA.

The Kennedy administration risked nuclear war to get them out.

Israel will stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons
regardless of the consequences.

Period.

Most of the attack would come from submarines. If there are 15 targets that we want to hit two or three times, subs are the logical vehicle.

I say do everything to give the discontented Iranian masses every chance to throw off the yolk of these stupid mullahs and their minions. Why make mortal enemies out of such an vast base of potential allies. It was the people of Iran that threw the Shah out, now that they are sick of the Mullahs they might be able to give them a similar boot ,if properly supported.

There isn't enough time to try that approach, and the operative word is "try", because it is not guaranteed to work.

Remember, at least some of that noise about "resistance" is going to be straight from Iranian intelligence because they know we will have a natural tendency to hope that the "resistance" is actually effective. Look at the history of the OGPU's "The Trust", for instance, or at General Skoblin's White Russian emigre crock.

We don't have time to follow these and see which ones might be real and which ones are just a blind.

I have also considered this as a possibility, but I don't think Iran would be stupid enough to take on both the United States and Israel simultaneously.

I don't think there is a faster way to commit suicide than challenge two of the most powerful militaries on earth.

The Israelis just took a delivery for over 100 F-16i, which have range to Iran

Yes, I remember that the Ayatolla Khomeini was living a sheltered life in France. However, when the chips were down, it was Jimmy Carter that forced the Shah to leave. All of this in the name of peace.

Without a doubt he was the worst president that we have had.

I just happened to be working as an American contractor in Iran during the reign of the Shah, through his departure, arrival of the Ayatollah and left shortly before the capture of the US Embassy for the second time.

The departure of the Shah destabilized the Middle Eastern region.

Unfortunately, the people that were born during the reign of the Shah and living in Iran are just about decimated. Many of those people were forced into the military to fight Iraq for 8 years, or executed. This action almost wiped out all of the progress that the Shah brought about to Iran. The people that we see today were only told that the Shah had a relationship with the land of the Great Satan.

It is possible that the Iraqi airfields, (H-1 and H-2) could be used as a refueling/return refuge. It is not necessary to fuel in air. We own Iraq!

I seriously doubt the USA would be complicit in an Israeli attack on Iran. That would simply everything the arabs have tried to claim for years.

Been some "hopeful" ideas posited here which need to be brought into focus.

1st: Israel cannot launch an airstrike against Iran without U.S. and Iraqi complicity. Jordan might be too stupid to notice a flight of bombers violating its airspace, but no one will believe Iraq and the U.S. didn't notice them flying all the way across Iraq.

2nd: Cruise missiles launched from the Indian Ocean are NOT going to take care of this problem. It's going to require heavy, heavy ordnance- think MOAB. And probably more than one hit on each buried site.

3rd: since a large majority of Iranians are pro-U.S., they won't be outraged at an american attack if these sites are not near civilian population centers. And perhaps they will understand even if they are.

We shall see. So many things going on that could shape the future of the world.

"why breath a word about any of this in advance?
are they nuts?"

No. I'm sure they would prefer not to have to do it. But they make no bones about it, and no one is going to stop them anyway, if they decide to go.

I suppose we should all harbor hopes that reason may prevail amongst the mullahs, though I wouldn't bet my paycheck on it; and I wouldn't object if the Israelis do what they decide they have to do.

I would like to second the contention that Carter was not only the worst President of my lifetime, but the worst President ever. It is hard to even know where to begin discussing the damage that knucklehead did.

First you state this.

The Israelis just took a delivery for over 100 F-16i, which have range to Iran

Then this.

I seriously doubt the USA would be complicit in an Israeli attack on Iran. That would simply everything the arabs have tried to claim for years.
