"He (Kerry) also made campaign stops meant to play to southeast Ohio's strong gun-rights voters. In Pike County's city of Buchanan, Kerry's motorcade stopped at the Village Grocery Store, where he paid $140 for a hunting license he plans to use during a hunting trip and campaign stop in Youngstown this week."
"Can I get me a hunting license here?" Kerry asked store owners Paul and Debra McKnight.

OK, first of all, a man who owns several mansions and speaks French to his neighbors in France walks into a country store in Ohio to talk like Jed Clampett and says "Can I get me a hunting licence here?" This is embarrasing. He sounds like a parody of Woody Allen's movie on Leonard Zelig "The Chameleon Man." Kerry tries to talk the way a Bostonian thinks rural folks do and all he can do is immitate dialogue from old B Movies that he once saw as a kid. John, first of all, the way you say it is "May I purchase an Ohio State License to Hunt for this season please?" Second, John. Don't go hunting in downtown Youngstown this weekend, the Democratic mayor of the city has endorsed President Bush and I don't see you winning back his favor by shooting up his town. Get permission from some farmer to go on his land and then please, please just take your shot gun and get lost for the rest of the year so we don't have to endure any more sorry scenes of Boston accents asking "can I get me a licence?"

I just saw this story on Drudge.
I laughed and threw up at the same time (not a pretty picture).

"Can I get me a hunting license here?" Kerry asked store owners Paul and Debra McKnight. Good Lord. Kerry must think all hunters are dumbass hicks. Yeah, that's really winning over the hearts & minds, Frenchboy!

This is the same fool who was quoted as having stalked deer, crawling on his belly through the mud, with a 10 gauge shotgun.
He might fool suburban America, but I'm here to tell you folks, his style of deer hunting will get you one thing, and one thing only...
MUDDY! :-)

What a condescending jerk. I grew up in a rural area, went to small schools in a fairly small town, and yet, and yet, I learned to speak and write proper English. How offensive.

I can't wait until Kerry visits Amish country. I think we can expect something along the lines of:
"Can I buy ye a buttermilk margarita?".

All Kerry has to do is keep opening his mouth and this thing is over.
After last week he won't have a preprogrammed debate schedule to help boost his image. The real Kerry is now on the prowl and it ain't pretty.

"Can I get me a hunting license here?"
They usually have a big sign that reads,"hunting license sold here".

"Can I get me a hunting license here?" Kerry asked store owners Paul and Debra McKnight. Imagine the field day the press would have if President Bush had asked the question this way.
This is an obvious putdown to residents of Ohio. Kerry doesn't speak this way, but he thinks Ohioans do.
It's just more evidence of his elitism and his willingness to say anything to anyone if it makes him more likable.
Problem is, he often misjudges the effect.
