Kerry: I Wouldn't Respond to Nuclear Attack

John Kerry told Democrats gathered in Boston two weeks ago that he defended his country as a young soldier in Vietnam and he would defend it again as president.

But as Michael Dukakis' lieutenant governor, Kerry authored an executive order that said the state of Massachussetts would refuse to take part in any civil defense efforts in response to a nuclear attack on America. The presidential candidate was an ardent proponent of the nuclear freeze at the time, and viewed Cold War civil defense preparations as an attempt to delude the American people into thinking a nuclear exchange was survivable.

Lt. Gov. Kerry's executive order on behalf of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts read in part:

"Whereas the existing and potential strength of nuclear weapons is such that nuclear war can neither be won nor survived, it can only be prevented; and Whereas the only effective defense against the horrors of nuclear weapons lies in their elimination and in the prevention of nuclear war or attacks, [the Commonwealth of Massachusetts] shall seek to ensure the safety of its citizens by pursuit of policies reflecting a serious commitment to prevention of nuclear war."

"Such policies," the Kerry directive continued, "shall include education of citizens concerning the real nature of nuclear war and efforts to influence national policy towards negotiation of an end to the nuclear-arms race."

The Kerry order stated emphatically, however: "No funds shall be expended by the Commonwealth for crisis relocation planning for nuclear war."

Monica Conyngham, Lt. Gov. Kerry's spokeswoman at the time, defended the controversial document, telling reporters, "We believe that [evacuation] plans are absolutely futile and that there are no safe havens from nuclear war."

Gov. Dukakis signed Kerry's "no nuclear defense" executive order into law on June 28, 1984.

I remembered this article this morning, and I hope that TPTB in the Bush campaign will take note, and make some hay with it. The Fraud is trying to make the American voters believe that he will "hunt down and kill" terrorists, but here he signed an executive order that he would not defend America against a nuclear attack.

In one of the debates, also, he said (and, in his avalanche of superfluous words, the comment was largely hidden) that he would discontinue development of nuclear bunkerbuster bombs.

This pretender to the throne has not changed his yellow and red stripes, and the American public needs to have it pointed out loud and clear.

An eyecatching commercial would be a good start!

Kerry is so right. If only the terrorists were educated and understood the destructive power of nukes, I am sure they would stop trying to get them....

Do the game theory. it is easy. bacically, it tells our enemies to go ahead and nuke us-- there will be no repurcushions.

The Bush Campaign needs to run this in a commercial next week. Even undecided wishy-washy moderate independent swing-voters know that ruling out nukes rules out any chance you'll be elected president.

Oh how I pray the Bush campaign surfs this site! This would be excellent ammo! Also, a woman at the early voting site in Florida was interviewed on FOX this morning. She said she had eight children...that's right-8...and she's voting for Kerry because her children don't have health insurance!!! No thought that perhaps having 8 children that you can't afford might be a bad personal choice and not the tax payers fault or responsibility! This is what we are up against folks!

Of course the Commonwealth would be first in line for Federal Funds, the two Senators from the state fighting over the photo op.

Ah...fooman, as gently as I can..."repercusions," not repurcushions. Repurcushions are those things you bought a second time to put on your sofa when the first set wore out.

I've asked it before but got no answer.

Does anyone know if J. F'nn Kerry was the State Attorney General when Dukakis pardoned Willie Horton to rape again?

Yeah right. Bush isn't doing anything except playing nice and adopting that stupid New Tone attitude. He should be shredding Kerry's Senate record and making ads of him as Dukakis' underling. He also should be running anti-war footage and photos of Kerry when he came back from 'Nam.

If FrankenKerry was around during the days of Nikita Khruschev, we'd be speaking Russian now.

Now, we know that Kerry is always on both sides of every issue. We insist on seeing the flop side of this proclamation.

The Kerry order stated emphatically, however: "No funds shall be expended by the Commonwealth for crisis relocation planning for nuclear war."

I believe that the real reason for this is as follows:

Kerry has plans to protect HIS OWN ASS in case of a nuclear strike.

He just didn't want the 'commonwealth' of Mass. to spend money on it to protect a voting publice he could care less about, so he could use the money elsewhere (likely something again to benefit him and not his constituency, but ...)
