The Case Against Kerry Reason #1: Kerry Will Raise Taxes (Supported Increasing Taxes on Social Sec.)
Human Events Online ^ | Sept 1, 2004

John Kerry has adopted the classic Democratic strategy of class-war demagoguery. During his campaign, he has repeatedly pledged to increase taxes on the "rich"--i.e. Americans earning more than $2000,000 per year--while providing additional government benefits to the middle class.

In fact, Kerry has a long and consistent record of voting against tax cuts and in favor of tax increases--no matter what the income level of the taxpayers in question.

In the 12 years since the National Taxpayers Union began grading the voting records of members of Congress on tax-and-spending issues, Kerry has received the grade of "F" eleven times.

He voted against the Bush tax cuts in 2001 and 2003, which lowered the income tax rates for the lowest brackets.

He repeatedly voted against elimintaing the marriage penalty.

He also supported the provision in Presidnet Clinton's 1993 stax hike that increased taxes on the elderly middle-class by taxing the Social Security benefits of people earning a mere $32,000 per yaer or more.

I have got to find that data sheet on how the democrats have raised costs and taxes and premiums on Soc Sec and medicare. My elderly mother is afraid, thanks to Kerry lies, that if Bush is re-elected my 89 year old aunt will lose her $800/month SS check. And my mother said her medicare went up. She blames Bush. I tried to explain to her that some of these changes were put into place during Clinton, and timed to take effect after he left office. I have to find that data sheet about all the times SS has been messed with and it was Democrats who did it. The democrats have nothing good to run on so they LIE LIE LIE LIE LIE LIE LIE.

Social Security recipients, in my opinion, have far more to fear from Kerry than they do Bush, if they should fear Bush at all, despite Kerry's apparent mediscare tactics.

How the hell does Kerry think he has moral authority to even comment on this? Between his wife only paying $1250 into SS and Medicare on $5.7 million in income, and Breck boy's $591,000 Medicare tax avoidance, the RNC should be frying him!

Print out and show her this Washington Post article. It says kerry LIED about Bush's SS plans

The Kerry ad, however, is attacking a plan that doesn’t yet exist.

It's time for all freepers and other truth seekers to hit the battleground states with voices and fliers spreading the message of President Bush's accomplishments and proof of Kerry's smear and fear campaign. Kerry has touted the word "plan" throughout his campaign but for almost a year now plus 20 years has never offered any type of plan. I have challenged many Kerry supporters to name one plan he has offered in his political life and not to my amazement, none can name even one.

Kerry repeats several things over and over and over. These being he will only raise taxes on those earning over $200K, he has a plan, and go to his web site to read his plan.

Well, if you go to his web site and read his plan on taxes he says he wants to revert the top two tax brackets to their Clinton levels. Fine. The problem here is if he returns the 2nd tier to the Clinton level, it can go down to those earning $80K a year. NOT the $200K and above he always says.

Indirectly, raising the taxes of top-income individuals, who also happen to be entrepreneurs in a position to hire individuals (and give them raises for productivity) eliminates the payrolls that support these employees. Thus, jobs disappear, and wages fall, precisely because the taxes were raised on the top income brackets. And no tax is more devastating than being completely unemployed, especially from a job that was not covered by unemployment benefits. What part of this small lesson in economics does the Democrat nominee not understand?

I thought he was supposed to be a smart person.

Viewpoint: Women would be smart to vote for Bush Another lie the writer promoted was that Social Security, Medicare and prescription medicine is in peril under the Bush administration. Here are the facts: In December 2003, President Bush signed a new Medicare law that will provide 40 million seniors and people with disabilities with better benefits and more options for the first time in Medicare's history. The new prescription drug benefit will empower seniors and Americans with disabilities to choose the health care coverage that is best for them. Beginning this past June, millions of seniors started saving on their prescription medicines with Medicare-approved discount cards. Nearly 4.2 million seniors are already using their cards to save money on their medicines. In addition to these savings, low-income seniors are getting a $600 a year credit - a total of $1,200 through the end of 2005 - to help pay for prescriptions. For the first time, Medicare will offer disease management services that will help beneficiaries with chronic medical conditions avoid dangerous and costly medical complications. On the other hand, John Kerry had this to say concerning the Prescription Drug benefit for Seniors: "If I'm president we're going to repeal that phony [Prescription Drug] bill." (Sen. John Kerry, "Ending the Era of Special Interests." Remarks in Nashua, NH, 1/21/04) Kerry missed 36 of 38 votes on Medicare reform and prescription drug benefits. He has voted five times for the formula that has required Medicare premiums to increase.

As for Social Security, President Bush will strengthen and enhance Social Security, guaranteeing no changes in benefits for current retirees and near-retirees, while giving younger workers the opportunity to use their Social Security payroll taxes to build a nest egg for retirement that can be passed on to their families. I don't see where this would be a threat to women (or to anyone, for that matter). Where does John Kerry stand on the issue of Social Security? Who knows - he keeps changing his position. He has been on both sides - and no one really knows where he would stand if elected. We do know that as a senator, he voted twice for Clinton's $241 billion tax hike on Social Security, three times to keep the hike and three times against repealing the 1993 increase.

AARP REJECTS KERRY’S MEANS TESTING IDEA

AARP Spokeswoman Rejects Social Security Means Testing Suggested By Kerry. “A spokeswoman for the AARP said … that it did not support means-testing for social security recipients.” (Glen Johnson, “Kerry Hints At Reform For Social Security,” The Boston Globe, 8/14/03)

Means Testing Would Eliminate Social Security For Some Americans. “‘Means testing’ would completely eliminate benefits for people above a certain income level.” (AARP, “The Policy Book: AARP Public Policies 2003,” 2003)

KERRY’S ALREADY TAXED SENIORS’ SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS

In 1993, Voted Five Times To Tax Social Security Benefits. (S. Con. Res. 18, CQ Vote #57: Motion Agreed To 52-47: R 0-43; D 52-4, 3/24/93, Kerry Voted Yea; S. Con. Res. 18, CQ Vote #59: Motion Agreed To 55-44: R 0-43; D 55-1, 3/24/93, Kerry Voted Yea; S. 1134, CQ Vote #169: Motion Agreed To 51-46: R 1-41; D 50-5, 6/24/93, Kerry Voted Yea; H.R. 2264, CQ Vote #190: Passed 49-49: R 0-43; D 49-6, With Vice President Al Gore Casting A “Yea” Vote, 6/25/93, Kerry Voted Yea; H.R. 2264, CQ Vote #247: Adopted 51-50: R 0-44; D 50-6, With Vice President Al Gore Casting A “Yea” Vote, 8/6/93, Kerry Voted Yea)

Hiked Taxes On Middle Class Senior Citizens’ Social Security Benefits. Kerry voted to raise the tax on senior citizens’ Social Security benefits, affecting seniors making as little as $34,000. (John H. Cushman Jr., “The Budget Struggle; Wealthy Or Not, Taxpayers Will Find Plenty Of Surprises,” The New York Times, 8/8/93)

Voted Three Times Against Repealing Social Security Tax Hike. (S. Con. Res. 57, CQ Vote #142: Adopted 50-48: R 49-4; D 1-44, May 22, 1996, Kerry Voted Nay; H.R. 8, CQ Vote #188: Adopted 58-41: R 54-1; D 4-40, 7/13/00, Kerry Voted Nay; S. Con. Res. 23, CQ Vote #94: Rejected 48-51: R 48-3; D 0-47; I 0-1, 3/25/03, Kerry Voted Nay)
