I don't remember what I was doing during the election, I just knew that my parents were really unhappy about Carter's win. I was nine that year. The only thing I remember about that year was taking a trip to Yellowstone National Park earlier that summer...and celebrating the Bicentennial. I think one of my uncles got married that summer as well.

Anyway, the Carter/Ford election was the first one I remember, so I guess its significant in that way.

I was in Ahwaz, Iran at that time. Didn't even know what was going on. I was a kid. But when I moved to Saudia at the end of 1976 and saw the cover of Time Magazine in the spring of '77 with Carter's picture on it, I thought, "My G*d, HE'S our new President? What were people thinking?"

Unfortunately, I was not "political" back then. I didn't cast my first vote until 1980 when Ronald Reagan ran. I was 32 years old with two children and believe me we suffered under Carter. I haven't missed an election since.......too much at stake to be apathetic.

I was a student at University of Wisconsin Madison. I was hoping Ford would win and disappointed that he didn't. I remember walking through some hotel in Madison where the RATS were holding their celebration. They were all happy and I walked through going "bah bah bah" i.e. anticipating the phrase the "sheeple" but something like 25 years. Some things you did when you were that age you wonder "how could I be that stupid" but in this case it's more like "how could I have been that smart"!

Berlin, Germany. My own first oportunity for a Presidential vote. Most of us Army folks were sorely disappointed in Ford's loss, knowing we would now be working for peanuts.

I was 27.

I voted for Ford. But the country was tired of the scandal and it's aftermath and Carter seemed to offer relief to many. Also people had an uncomfortable feeling about a President who had never been elected even as VP. I think that is why Carter won.

Just my personal recollection.

"I was thinking about creating an Internet site, focused on discussions of the ideals of liberty and freedom. Couldn't get it done and then years later this guy Jim Robinson stole my "idear". That's my story and I'm sticking with it."

LOL! Give yourself some slack, A.Gore hadn't invented the internet yet.

At the time I was arguing daily with two leftist colleagues about why Carter would be a disaster as president. I admit I was entirely correct, but little did I know that he would be chosen as a Nobel Peace prize winner! That is so amazing I cannot but conclude that the Norwegian prize committee are all idiots like Carter, but they didn't do as much harm to America as he did. Carter rates among the lowest of the low among some pretty bad leaders, but Klintoon was worse.

I was probably just done with potty training. First election I remember is 1980 when that nice looking man beat that scary looking old man.

I was only 13 at the time but I could tell you I would have voted for Carter solely because of Ford's idiotic "The Soviets do not dominate Poland" comment in the debates.
