Beslan militants were drug-dependent, forensic study shows

By C.J. Chivers

Monday, October 18, 2004 MOSCOW Forensic analysis of the remains of 31 militants who seized the public school in Beslan last month has determined that all of them were dependent on drugs, a senior law enforcement official said in a statement reported by Russian news agencies Sunday.

Nikolai Shepel, the deputy prosecutor general of Russia's southern federal district, also said that blood tests had found very high levels of heroin and morphine among a majority of the attackers who died at the siege, "which indicates that they were long-term drug addicts and had been using drugs permanently while preparing for the terrorist attack," according to the Interfax wire service.

Is this how they are controlled then?

This group. So long as they avoid intoxicating liquor they will get their white grapes.

This is good 'ol Russian propaganda. Smart to. If terrorists scum know they will be labeled junkies, it might do a little to thwart pottential recruits.

This reads like it was written by the DNC.

Terrorist are a nuisance, the real problem was the poor drug addicts did not have access to rehab.

Drugs: The victimless crime.

This may be a contributing factor, but it's safe to say that this crime took place because the perpatrators were high on jihad. The heroin may have been the Islamofascist version of Irish courage, but it didn't 'make' these guys go in and kill the school. Ideology did.

And Libertarians want to legalize drugs. Like that will work.

The Assassins, by Philip K. Hitti:

The drugged youths woke up in a garden where young women pleasured them, convincing them they must be in paradise...

Yup. Quite a racket, considering the low-tech conditions. (Bet they weren't virgins, though!)

I agree. There's something about this that just doesn't smell right, but it just might be that over the years I have learned to routinely doubt anything a Russian may say.

The juramentado could not be called insane but was under the influence of a frenzied religious excitement.

Often believed to have been drug-induced.

Almost all closeup photographs of terrorists and clerics that I see in the media have one thing in common; they all look stoned out of their minds. The link between islam's fanatics and drugs is an ancient one. The Russians know this. It's a form of mind control. Once upon a time, as Marco Polo reported, the drug of choice was hemp, now it's opium.

Given their Arabic origination, they probably got the heroin from Afghanistan.

Let's see...
According to Al Sistani's q&a at his website sistani.org:

112. All Alcoholic liquors and beverages which intoxicate a person, are najis and on the basis of recommended precaution, everything which is originally liquid and intoxicates a person, is najis (dirty). Hence narcotics, like, opium and hemp, which are not liquid originally, are Pak (pure), even when a liquid is added to them.

i am sceptical also. it is hard to imagine people high on heroin being able to manage this sort of organized operation. my impression of heroin addicts is people who sit around in a "nod" and do nothing. they might rob a car or house to get money for a fix.
i think this is russian propaganda.

Actually it's not in the q&A section. It is shown in definitions.

Still wondering about both Kerry and Edwards' reference to OPIUM during the debates. It has to manifest somewhere or they wouldn't have been so pointed about it.
