Has anyone noticed the removal of pork products from menus at franchises?
Posted on 10/17/2004 6:20:45 AM PDT by applpie
It finally dawned on me today. Ahah. My local Boston Market (Burke, VA) has removed ham from its menu--all the ham/pork products. This is in spite of the fact that the corporate menu still includes ham. I did happen to notice quite a few muslims working at the restaurant. So what do you think about that? Personally, I find it pretty offensive that the freedom of many is affected by the Islamic dietary laws in public franchises.

Find out who owns the franchise. Maybe it's the store owner who pulled the menu items. If it's muslims, vote with your feet. Where I live, you don't see any pork-flavored Slurpees.

Ask the manager why. If it wasn't selling in your area maybe it was just a business decision.

It's kinda sad when ya think about it. How many trichnosis cases do we have a year again? E coli and salmonella pop up all the time however. Pork appears to me to be the safest choice when it comes to disease, plus they now have leaner cuts of pork, win win.
Plus, pork fat rules. Emeril told me so.

Vote with your feet, and find another place to eat.
You'd better get use to this kind of muslim incrementalism.

No.
'Real Virginians' don't shop at Boston Market. Or at least they don't admit it.

It's my guess that it's due to prices....Pork is very expensive right now; that's probably all it is.
