Anyone else think the CIA is gonna send in people undercover and try to stir stuff up with the people of Haiti against these Chinese troops?
I dont think the guys in DC are digging the idea of the UN using the Red Army to patrol the world. First Haiti, next, some South American country......then, god only knows

Naw... I am not too much of a Conspiracy Person. Anyway... it's not a big deal if a bunch of Chinamen try to pacify the wild Haitians. It seems more like an PR effort to me.

Let's wait and see what happens after 15 or 20 of these communist "peacekeepers" get necklessed or hacked apart with machetees.

Haiti's a lost cause. Nothing will ever civilize that place. If the Chinese want to pour a few bodies down that rat hole, I guess we might as well encourage them.
However, I am a bit uncomfortable about Chinese in uniform in this hemisphere. Thin edge of the wedge, etc.

I'd still do it.

It may soon read:
Chinese peacekeepers wave goodbye as they leave Beijing for the United States on January 22nd, 2005, (at the invitation of the newly-installed Kerry administration) on a six-month UN mission to quell rioting right-wing reactionaries who object to the new president's declarations of martial law and immediate gun confiscation. They will join another 300,000-member team which left one month ago. [Xinhua]

Me, too. I don't like it at all. Bad precedent.

I'm working mainly from memory here so correct me if I'm wrong. Don't the Chinese have a large interest in the Panama Canal?

As far as I know the US has been encouraging China to take part a lot more in UN peacekeeping missions. The Chinese resisted for years.

It seems that the effin' Chineeeeeeze will jump at any chance to worm their way into the western hemisphere. We're told that they are already in the Bahamas and they control both ends of the Panama Canal. Good places for setting up their missle bases.
Anyone who is comfortable about that is either naive or stupid or an out-and-out subversive.
