Asked by third presidential debate moderator Bob Shieffer to describe the influence of his wife and two daughters on his life, Democrat John Forbes Kerry responded:
"... if I could just say a word about a woman that you didn't ask about, but my mom passed away a couple of years ago, just before I was deciding to run. And she was in the hospital, and I went in to talk to her and tell her what I was thinking of doing. And she looked at me from her hospital bed and she just looked at me and she said, 'Remember: integrity, integrity, integrity.' Those are the three words that she left me with."
My mother died 25 years ago, when I also was a mature man, albeit only 39. It was just after 3 a.m. when I arrived at her home, urgently called there in the middle of a rainy Miami night by her live-in, full-time nurse. Mama was sitting on the edge of her death-bed, grasping at the last thread of life that cancer had left in her riddled body, her palms-down hands braced on the mattress and her feet dangling limply to the floor.
I sat down next to her, wrapped my arms around her waist, and began kissing her sweaty head, now cradled on my right shoulder. A glib young man with a quip for any occasion, I was speechless mute testimony to the precipitous loss of my mother that was unfolding rapidly.
Marshaling just enough strength to speak, she whispered to me, "Michael, I love you so much," then died.
In listening to Senator Kerry as he recalled his mother's final words, I was shocked by their oddity, and also burdened with this profoundly frightening question:
Why would any mother use her last breath to lecture her 58-year-old son to be honest?
Why would any mother use her last breath to lecture her 58-year-old son to be honest?
His dying mother has to tell him to be honest . . .
His wife made him sign a prenuptual agreement to protect her money . . .
ANYBODY who would want this man to be president has got to be insane!
NewsMax really crosses the line. This smacks of the kind of crap on DU.
kerry is an utter jackass
'Remember: integrity, integrity, integrity.'
This statement has already been proved to have come from Rassman in a sppech just a few weeks/months ago, where he said this about Kerry not Kerry's mom.
Who's Michael?
If his Mom did say this to him (and there is some indication that the line was lifted from one of his supporters), then, IMHO, knowing her son, she was urging him to develop a quality she knew he was severly lacking in.
Are you saying this story is another fairy tale, like Christmas in Cambodia???
this was pure smarmy theater, written by Bob Shrum
I agree.
Classic Kerry - the answer made no sense on any level.
Mike Thompson, the guy who wrote the editorial, talking about when his own mother died.
Kerry's the one who claims his mother said this to him, like he claimed to be in Cambodia, like he claimed to (not) own an SUV, like he claimed to talk to Christopher Reeve as HE died, etc., etc., etc. A politician with such a track record is going to have such claims evaluated with some skeptical eyes.
I'd like to see a link to any proof. Do you honestly think Kerry's so calculating that he would make up his mother's dying words?
I don't like Kerry, and I've already voted for Bush (thank you absentee balloting), but . . . come on!
And we all know that Senator Kerry, known by many names, but also known as "liveshot", the kind of man who would take an 8 MM to re-enact his "bravery" in Vietnam to be used for a presidential campaign in his future, is not above something like this.
As with this author, my mom passed away three years ago, 09/16/01. Her last words to me before she could no longer speak were how much she loved me.

Read this thread from yesterday about Kerry's mother. Remember in the speech he said she was in her hospital bed? Well, the aforementioned thread has a link to her obituary that states she died at home.
John Kerry will say ANYTHING to be elected president. This man is a first class lying scumbag.
If I were dying at Kerry was at my bedside, my last three words for him would be * * , Traitor.
Let me put it this way it sounds, "Verry Kerry".
If Kerry said I don't beleive it for a minute. Remember not to long ago he used a quote from Hidabeast's book and claimed it as his own.
I just think he misunderstood her. What she really said was, Rosebud."
I'm probably going to lose this debate, but people have purchased hospital beds and brought them to their homes before. Kerry certainly could afford to do this.
How do you prove something like this unless it's documented on film? We are not likely to get any proof, so he cannot be called into account on this.
I do think Kerry is so calculating that he would make something like this up.
