News Advisory, October 14 / -- An open letter to Dick and Lynn Cheney from Regina Griggs:
I am saddened by the outrageous behavior of Senators Kerry and Edwards, who inexplicably and insensitively injected your daughter Mary's sexuality into the presidential debates.
I am the parent of a homosexual child and the Executive Director of Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays (PFOX), a national organization that offers support and education to families and friends of homosexuals, and advocates for the rights of ex-gays.
Mary is, I'm sure, a fine young woman with many wonderful qualities, and that is how she should be recognized. To label anyone solely by their sexuality is demeaning and inappropriate. As parents, we can and do love our children unconditionally no matter who they are attracted to. Loving unconditionally allows us the freedom to maintain our values and viewpoints while keeping a bridge open to our children.
Senator Kerry deliberately misled the American public as well as people who have unwanted same-sex attractions when he stated that people are born gay. He should know better.
On May 13, 2004, PFOX and ex-gay men and women met with the staffs of Senators Kerry and Edwards. (See photo at http://www.earnedmedia.org/edwards.htm ) The ex-gays are living proof that change is possible, and they also provided the staffs with educational information on fromer homosexuality, including a statement from the American Psychiatric Association that there are no "replicated scientific studies supporting any scientific biological etiology for homosexuality." Ex-gays explained that although no one chooses same sex attractions, many men and women overcome unwanted same sex attractions every year.
Ex-gays also preesnted the Senators' offices with a Congressional resolution on tolerance for former homosexuals. The resolution calls for Congress to condemn intolerance against ex-gays and to affirm its committment to a society that respects all people, including former homosexuals. Now who could be opposed to that? Yet both Senators have refused to state whether they support the resolution.
Homosexual activists like those working on the Kerry-Edwards team want "gay marriage" and civil unions in order to gain public affirmation. They think this will make them happy. Happiness requires hope, and real hope is the knowledge that many men and women overcome unwanted same-sex attractions every year, even those who believed at one time that they were born that way and had no choice.
Mr. and Mrs Cheney, let me conclude by saying that I hope you'll sit down with PFOX someday and find kindred sould and new hope that you might not have known existed.

Human Sexuality is a complex subject. Anyone who simply says people are born that way ignores a ton of evidence to the contrary. There may be influences from genetics and other biological factors, but there are a ton of other factors too. And in the end, we all have free will and are responsible for our behavior.
I thought that you might like to see this article about ex-gays and how that PFOX and ex-gay men and women met with the staff of Senators Kerry and Edwards.

Kerry: Fighting Freewill; Biological Impulse Rules!
(including looking for rich wives)
What kind of man can within the span of a single sentence
misquote scripture, commit heresy, and scandalize with a tone
the sins of another to the entire planet for political gain?
KERRY: We're all God's children, Bob. And I think if you were to talk to Dick
Cheney's daughter, who is a lesbian, she would tell you that she's being
who she was, she's being who she was born as.
Romans 9:8
That is, They which are the children of the flesh,
these are not the children of God:
but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
Ec 7:30
Only this I have found, that GOD MADE man right, and he hath entangled
himself with an infinity of questions.
Who is as the wise man? and who hath known the resolution of the word
Ex-gays. They must have been "ashamed" of their lives. According to Kerry and Edwards, these people live in denial. According to Bush, he's not sure and he's willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Who's more compassionate?
I remember going to school with a boy who turned out to be a homosexual. In the early years he showed no tendencies in that direction. After his father died while he was still young, he began moving away from anything atheletic or male dominated. His manner of dress and his actions began to change. I think a lot of this was due to his very strong-willed mother. She was totally against sports, hunting, fishing, etc. To a large extend, her behavior and this boy's change reminds me of the way Liberace said his mother acted. She also worked to remove any aspects of male behavior from him. So there is no doubt that environmental aspects have a huge impact on homosexual behavior. Of course, it is by no means, the only factor.

Let me or little jeremiah know if you want on or off the homosexual agenda ping list.
One would have to ask them whether or not they were ashamed of their former lifestyle to find out if indeed they were ashamed. What has been shown is exactly what the American Psychaitric Association, the "Gay Gene" scientist, Dr. Dean Hamer, Dr. Spitzer and numerous others all concede, that there is no scientifiic evidence that gays are "born that way". In fact, the scientific evidence leans the other way. All we know is that many have overcome unwanted same-sex attrcations.
I doubt that Kerry and Edwards think that they are living in denial. They were presented the science from the APA. They know the truth. They just will continue to bow to the pressure fromm gay activists and say nothing about the existence of ex-gays.
Better to truly not know, and readily admit it, than to see the evidence and do nothing with it.
Therewith we know who is more compassionate.
Important post.
Thanks.
You are more than welcome for the ping.
What I find outrageous is that Senator Edwards and Senator Kerry have still not decided whther or not they are in favor of tolerance for ex-gays, i.e, the Congressional resolution calling for tolerance of ex-gays.
Hopefully the knowledge that Kerry and Edwards staff met with ex-gays and PFOX will gain some traction.
I can't see why anyone would claim that they were previously gay if they weren't.
Indeed. As you said in a previous post:
[Kerry & Edwards] will continue to bow to the pressure from gay activists and say nothing about the existence of ex-gays.
BUMP!
Further evidence that Kerry exploited this issue for purely political reasons...
Kerry is a faithless man who claims Catholisism and rejects its teachings for political gain. There can be no greater crime against God then to reject him for your own advancement in life.
Well said!
