Or not ....... it is sort of like natural selection... we cant do things in prisons that we used to do ... we have tv and recreation etc.... so the system is replacing it with their own hell.....
it is a prision ...... it is punishment....
One way to stop it is for criminals to not commit crimes.
If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.
The candidates were asked in the last debate if they thought that homosexuality begins at birth. How many of these gang members do you suppose were born in prison?
Is Party HQ going to hand out any fresh slogans soon?
You socialists are tiresome.
Check out the "Martha Stewart threads" here at FR and count the number of people who take great delight at the thought that she might be beaten or sexually molested while in prison.
What do you suggest? Short of solitary confinement for every prisoner, 23 hours a day, you're not going to stop it.
This is really sad. I believe someone who breaks the law must suffer the consequences of his/her actions. However, this man in no way, shape, or form deserved to go through this. My brother did federal time for drug violations, and thank God he never encountered treatment such as this.
I've always opined that if the proper punishment for a crime is rape, then the convicted should be formally raped. But he shouldn't be imprisoned as well. One thing or the other, and with due process; that's my perspective.
There is no doubt that prison is the belly of the beast. Is there hope for an inmate who wants to be reformed? I don't know. It's the last stop on a path going nowhere. It is what it is.
Actually, solitary confinement is a great idea.
I was in jail several time (Operation Resuce related) and while I never experienced rape, I did have a few confrontations which I managed to handle.
What struck me about my weeks in jail was how people would hook up to commit crimes together on the outside. People were planning to get into the drug business together, etc. It was like a convention of criminals. Not that jail is a great place to be, but once these people are in, it's not all that bad -- 3 hots and a cot. They play chess, checkers, work out, talk, etc. It's not a place which makes criminals not want to return.
It made me a believer in solitary confinement. People won't want to come back if they are alone 23 hours of the day.
The prisons are essentially a communist archipelago, scattered across America.
Not totally dissimilar from the public schools, just the NC17 version thereof.
"While I'm all in favor of prison being a nasty place, I don't like the organized crime that apparently takes place in the prison environment"
I agree with every part except prison having to be a nasty place. Reason one being, if it's a nasty place it will also turn the prison staff, guards, employees into nasty people too who get to filter back into our society. Not a good trade off. People do in fact start to parrot their environment if they're in it long enough. Prisons should be bland, and organised ONLY by the prison staff with ZERO tv and plenty of breaking the evil spirit of destruction prisoners wallow in and replacing it with positive constructivisms. TV is after all the crazed liberals slow drip of insanity, debuachery and disrespect to its viewership.
