Kerry slams 'refusal to serve'
AP, AFP
04sep04

NEW YORK: Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry declared he had taken enough "incoming" yesterday and blasted back at his Republican antagonists by suggesting George W. Bush and Vice-President Dick Cheney were draft dodgers.

In his toughest counter-punch of the campaign, the decorated war hero said he was not going to have his military qualifications questioned by "those who refused to serve" in the Vietnam War.

"For the past week, they attacked my patriotism and my fitness to serve as commander in chief ... well, here's my answer," Senator Kerry said in Ohio.

"I'm not going to have my commitment to defend this country questioned by those who refused to serve when they could have and by those who have misled the nation into Iraq.

"Let me tell you in no uncertain terms what makes someone unfit for office and unfit for duty. Misleading our nation into war in Iraq makes you unfit to lead our country.

"Doing nothing while this nation loses millions of jobs makes you unfit to lead this country. Letting 45 million Americans go without health care for four years makes you unfit to lead this country.

"Letting the Saudi royal family control the price of oil for Americans makes you unfit to lead this country."

Mr Bush spent the Vietnam War in the Texas Air National Guard, and had faced accusations that even then he was absent without leave for long periods. Mr Cheney received five deferments and once explained that he had "other priorities".

Senator Kerry. How many deferments did you seek, and how many did you receive? Is it not true that you enlisted because after a year of deferment, you asked for further deferment to study in PARIS, had been turned down and you chose to enlist in the Navy and hoped to avoid direct combat, as opposed to being drafted into the branches which saw MORE action?

Yep hes losing it because the Mapes / Rather expoese failed. His record is coming out this week. Both sides have known this from the beginnihg. Thats why the Viet Nam BS in Boston. Thats why the MSM effort to taint Bush's Guard service. To create moral equivalency between them so his dishonorable would be the same as the CBS documents. But they FFFed UP and now the moment of truth is coming and he is unraveling because he doesn't have his ace in the hole---the 60 minutes program was supposed to cover his butt, BUT--THANK YOU LITTLE GREEN FOOTBALLS!!!!!!

A 5th deferment! He'd already been granted 4 of them.

There must be something in the Sinclair movie that kerry is hiding from something besides the obvious that were not seeing in the daily diatribes sinclair may just bury kerry in his own muck !

I hear now he's demanding equal time ! why didnt he show up when they asked him to ? he could have been in the movie itself but i guess that wouldn't have give him time to spin maybe ?

There are exceptions. The waiting list to go to Vietnam in the Navy was huge. Many people (not Kerry) went into the Navy as a family tradition. My original orders to counter insurgency to NSA Saigon were canceled due to Nixon wanting to use more Vietnamese. Out of my CI class we all, to a man, volunteered for alternative service in Vietnam.
In my case I went into the service at 17 and Mom would not let me go in the Marines. She has no idea how much I wish she would have let me, regardless of the consequences.

I knew a guy that was a hippie in the early 70's. He came up with a low draft number and wanted to avoid Vietnam so he joined the navy. Really nice guy that really liked helping people. Volunteered to be a corpman. Could always tell you to the minute how long his tour in Vietnam was.

Like most hippies he was a dope. It was well know back then that most corpsmen wound up serving with Marines.

Did he (Kerry) enlist in the Naval Reserve or the Navy? It might be analogous to Bush joining the Air National Guard, not the Air Force. Digging into Bush's records only resulted in the left uncovering records that showed Bush was rated very highly as a pilot.

Don't get me wrong. I don't wish to cast aspersions on anyones service. kerry did try to avoid service and then wound up in the navy. That's the same tact my friend in post 26 tried to use. His intention was also to avoid Vietnam.

"... so he joined the navy."

Even that hippy had a lot more guts than kerry, who joined the Navy Reserves, status "inactive." He was determined to avoid combat, only volunteered for swift boats because at the time, they were not used in combat, only for non-combat coastal duties. When he learned that he and his boat were being ordered inland for combat duty, he raised cain about it, practically refused to go. After that, according to those who served with him, he did nothing but complain and whine. Everybody there was very pleased to see him return to the States.

Oh, man, is that girl in the photo really holding a "sign the 180" sign? If kerry saw that, I'll bet he turned white.

Did he (Kerry) enlist in the Naval Reserve or the Navy?
This is all I've found so far, and I'm not sure if I'm reading it right...

Did Navy Lt. Kerry violate The UCMJ?

But the official Navy records show that Kerry joined the Naval Reserves (inactive), not the United States Navy, per se, as his own campaign indicated. He commenced active duty six months later. He transferred from active duty to the Naval Reserve (inactive) on January 3, 1970. He was put on standby reserve on 1 July 1972. He was finally discharged from the Navy on February 16, 1978. Here's a link to Kerry's service record chronology as listed in the official Navy documents from Kerry's own site.

sKerry is no ones hero, he's a gutless sissy! A hero is the kid I played with as a child & who was killed in Nam, a hero is my only uncle who died in WWII when his tank was blown up.

I don't know how much more I can read or handle from this puke before Nov.2, he makes my blood boil!
