BTW, does anyone know of one maternal medical condition that is relieved or "cured" by killing a fetus after it's delivered. I'm no doctor but I could imagine there may be women who are on the verge of stroke, or hemorrhage, or whatever, that MAY need some emergency delivery of the fetus before term. However, what medical condition could a woman have that would require that the baby be killed once it is delivered or in the process of being delivered...can anyone help me out here?
Of course not (but you knew that already). PBA's are a matter of the mother's convenience, not her health.

There are such things as Caesarians for such emergencies.
All I can figure out would be some severe drop in blood pressure. But I'm not a medical person at all.
There was a longish piece I saw in the WSJ maybe a year or two ago -- a statement by a group of about 100 OB-GYNs stating that PBA is not and has never been a recognized medical procedure because there is no circumstance that calls for it. I'll try to google it, but it's hard to think how to search, since I can't recall any of the names (and I'm vague on when it appeared).
