Pardon me, please.

I'm a tremendous sucker for a truly lost cause. And Johns Hopkins professor Pier Massimo Forni has one. An expert on romance languages, Forni is the cofounder of Hopkins' Civility Project and author of "Choosing Civility: The 25 Rules of Considerate Conduct." He's written special election-year tips on political politeness.

I don't seem to "be able to get there from here."

Might you post the rules, please?

:)

Civility in politics? Seriously...does no one know how heated political discourse has been throughout American history???

I'll give you one sterling example; that whole "Jefferson impregnated his slave" UL comes straight from a propagandist paid to write nasty things about him.

Well okay...the next time I see a Kerry supporter, I'll very politely tell them that their candidate is an a**hole.

BTW, I've noticed that the Lurch voters often have more than one of their guy's stickers on their car...if they truly think he will win, why do they have to work so hard to show their support?

I remember reading it somewhere that for the purposes of promoting civility in politics the space between the opposite benches in British Parliament was made as broad as an arm with a sword in it. (Presuming that the swords were more or less standard length and there were no members with extra-long arms).
It could sound too good to be true, but it could provide a useful point of departure.

That could explain why Kerry and Edwards keep their Senate seats empty. They are emulating the British Parliament.
