Tancredo now in cross hairs of attack ads
Rocky Mountain News ^ | 10/14/2004 | Gabrielle Crist

The group attacking U.S. Rep. Marilyn Musgrave in television ads is now on the hunt for Rep. Tom Tancredo - with a radio ad that began airing Wednesday.

In the ad, a woman is typing a letter to Tancredo. Then the narrator Says:

"My husband and I work hard to teach our children the values of acceptance and the evils of racism, which is why we're so disappointed in your conduct.

"You make a career of trying to punish immigrant workers, then turn around and use cheap, illegal labor to remodel your home. It's insulting to us all."

The reference to illegal labor is based on a 2002 allegation that Tancredo's remodeling contractor hired illegal immigrants to complete work on Tancredo's Home.

The contractor denied the allegation.

The woman then gives her name and notes she is from Greenwood Village.

Tancredo's campaign manager, Dave Pearson, said there are several problems with the ad. For starters, he said, there is no such woman in Greenwood Village and no active voter registration for anyone under that name.

Beyond that, he said, Tancredo is not a racist.

"The congressman is in favor of strengthening our borders and eliminating illegal immigration," Pearson said. "There is nothing racist or biased in that."

financially, yes, but he brings in people you have not necessarilly have control over who he brings.

Funny, you all complain about the US's financial responsibility for illegal immigrants, yet you dismiss that as an issue when it comes to this hypocrite Tancredo.

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, the organized anti-immigration movement is almost entirely the handiwork of Tanton. The center has classified two of the groups that Tanton has funded as "hate groups."

I followed your link and it didn't name those groups.

You should know that the SPLC is a far left org run by Morris Dees who rakes in big bucks by designating various groups as "hate groups." Sometimes they are and sometimes they aren't. Harper's ran an article called The Church of Morris Dees a few years back by Ken Silverstein. You should give it a look, here's an excerpt:

In 1986, the center's entire legal staff quit in protest of Dees's refusal to address issues--such as homelessness, voter registration, and affirmative action--that they considered far more pertinent to poor minorities, if far less marketable to affluent benefactors, than fighting the KKK. Another lawyer, Gloria Browne, who resigned a few years later, told reporters that the center's programs were calculated to cash in on "black pain and white guilt." Asked in 1994 if the SPLC itself, whose leadership consists almost entirely of white men, was in need of an affirmative action policy, Dees replied that "probably the most discriminated people in America today are white men when it comes to jobs."

I wonder if those Stormfront folks would agree with that statement by Dees?

I'm still waiting on that "hateful rhetoric" of Tancredo's that you mentioned.

Let's deal with his hypocracy first.

Funny, if your general contractor fails to pay the sub, you end up paying otherwise the sub can put a lien on your home. So you ARE responsible for your subs.

The way I understand it, you have a contract with your primary contractor. Your primary contractor has a contract with the subcontractors. If the liability for payment for subcontractors is specified in the primary contract, then you are liable fro that payment, otherwise you are not.

In no case whatsoever are you responsible for the type of labor your contractor or subcontractor hires. You need to read the primary contact, cross out and initial all parts that make you responsible for subcontractor payment. Probably, the liens you mentioned grew out of failure to read and negotiate the primary contract.

You don't think the ad was a smear?

The contractor has denied the charge that he hired illegal aliens to work on Tancredo's house. It's an unsubstantiated charge.

So far, so is your charge that Tancredo employs "hateful rhetoric."

Do you agree that FAIR is a white-supremacist outfit devoted to racial purity through eugenics?

Actually, it's very believeable that the lib-dem garbage would do this. I suspect we'll see even worse, before Nov 3rd rolls around. And what's coming after Nov 3rd, will blow your mind...

Do you have evidence that they are? Feel free to post it.

Now, how about your charge that Tancredo employs "hateful rhetoric?"

If the liability for payment for subcontractors is specified in the primary contract, then you are liable fro that payment, otherwise you are not.

The contract can not be altered to change the state law. Just about every state has a mechanic's lien statute that the subs, as well as the general can act under. You certain can have a cause of action against the general if he doesn't pay the subs, but you are first legally responsible to pay the subs.

"Do you have evidence that they are? Feel free to post it."

Sure, this comes from a respected member of congress. A category underwhich Tancredo has never be described.

"Pioneer Fund has given, through 1996, $1.2 million to FAIR. (Center for New Community Special Report, Divide and Conquer: A Profile of the Federation for American Immigration Reform)

On March 30, 1994, the San Francisco Chronicle wrote:

A confidential memo written by FAIR founder John Tanton, published in 1988, argued that continued immigration from Latin America would lead to the peaceful takeover of the nation by “a group that is simply more fertile.”

FAIR also has been attacked for accepting $ 600,000 in donations since 1988 from the Pioneer Fund, a wealthy New York organization that finances research seeking proof of the genetic superiority of the white race."

You've already been shown to be wrong on the subcontractors. I'm done embarrassing you.

Negative Population Growth, an organization once headquartered in the anti-immigration group FAIR’s Washington, DC office, was founded by Donald Mann who stated:

“We should give incentives to low-income people who agree to sterilization. We should make available free abortion to low-income people on demand. And companies should cut back or deny maternity leave to women who have more than two children.” (The Record, Teaneck Group Would Limit Babies, Immigrants, August 15, 1996, pg A01)

Executive director of FAIR, Dan Stein, said of Mann’s group, “NPG is one of a few serious, courageous, meaningful population-control groups that’s seriously dealt with immigration.” (The Record, Teaneck Group Would Limit Babies, Immigrants, August 15, 1996, pg A01)

"“Board members of FAIR actively promote the sterilization of Third World women for the purposes of reducing U.S. immigration prospects. And if anything disturbs the good doctor more than those Latin American hordes crossing the Rio Grande, it’s the likelihood that most of them are Catholic, or so he once told a Reuters reporter.

“CIS, an equally repugnant FAIR offshoot, is a big fan of China’s one-child policy and publishes books advocating looser limits on abortion and wider use of RU-486. CIS considers the Sierra Club, which cites “stabilizing world population” fourth on its 21st century to-do list, as too moderate. And like FAIR, CIS has called for a target U.S. population of 150 million, about half of what it is today."

This is the retoric of the people who follow Tancredo. Doesn't this make you ashamed to be in that same category?

Thanks for the four copy and pastes of the same link. I assure you I'm reading it over now.

Would you mind expending your energy in posting that allegedly "hateful rhetoric" of Tancredo's? I'm starting to wonder why you haven't.

I don't think it is state law, however it is part of contractor and subcontractor contracts. The only case I know of where a subcontractor can make the original party who contracted with the primary contractor part of a suit is if the primary contractor is in bankruptcy, else the subcontractor sues the contractor.

The way I understand it, a mechanic lien is for the mechanic, not the shop that grinds the head or bores the cylinders. If the latter is the responsibility of the car owner, he would also be liable for the parts the mechanic bought at the parts house and I know for a fact that ain't true.

You don't think the subject of the article was a smear of Tancredo? Tell me, are you in this country illegally? Tell the truth and shame the Devil.
