CANTON Congressional candidate Jeff Seemann is looking for a new campaign manager and finance director.
Seemann also has told police that $320 in campaign funds and a Palm Pilot have been stolen.
The shakeup in Seemanns campaign staff began less than three weeks before the Nov. 2 general election. Seemann is trying to unseat U.S. Rep. Ralph Regula, R-Bethlehem Township, who has held the post since 1973. A poll by The Repository shows Regula with a commanding lead.
Seemann said he fired finance director Mia Phifer, who was from Chicago, on Oct. 6. The firing of Phifer prompted the resignation of Mike Chaney, a Cleveland man who had served as campaign director.
Chaney had a close relationship with Phifer, Seemann said. Still, Seemann said Chaneys resignation came as a surprise.
Phifer the campaigns third finance director was fired because she didnt meet fund-raising expectations and she had become a disruption in the office, Seemann said. He added that Phifers demeanor had offended some local Democrats.
Seemann said Chaney left a note at campaign offices Sunday announcing his resignation.
The campaign funds came up missing between 5 and 10 p.m. Sunday, according to police reports. Seemann said he has asked for the return of the Palm Pilot, but he did not say who he believes has it.
Replacements for Chaney and Phifer havent been named. Seemann said his campaign has spent this week focusing on completing reports that must be filed today with the Federal Elections Commission.
Other campaign workers and volunteers are filling the voids, Seemann said.
At this point in the campaign, its all about getting out in the field and shaking hands, he said.
LOL. I wonder if the note said anything else....
"See ya, LOSER! BTW, thanks for hiring Mia."
