Just got a call from my mother informing me that my cousin , Eric Miner , was one of the Americans killed in the restaurant bombing in the Green Zone on Thursday . I will do some praying now , then call Mom back for more details .
Islam is a scourge on this planet that must be exterminated forthwith ...
If you get a chance and you're okay with it, sushiman, tell us about Eric.
I have sensed that we've lost proper perspective on how to honor the sacrifices of these men. Their gift should be viewed as a sacred investment in our commitment to this War, and we should honor our Warriors by being resolute, faithful to their commitment, and understanding that our obligation to them is to achieve victory.
I doubt Eric's desire was that the lessons drawn from his sacrifice would be to flatten Iraqi cities and destroy Islam. That's an insult to every American who is in Iraq fighting to protect our freedom, security and prosperity by winning freedom, security and prosperity for Iraqis.
We need to know about a guy like your cuz.
Brooklyn man killed in Iraq
Matthew L. Brown - Chronicle Staff Writer
BROOKLYN The latest round of violence in Iraq Thursday claimed the life of a Brooklyn resident who grew up in South Windham.
Eric Miner, 44, was the first civilian from Connecticut to be killed since the Iraq war began.
Two suicide bombers Thursday killed 10 civilians, including Miner, who was working for a private U.S. contractor. It was one of the bloodiest attacks inside Baghdads fortified Green Zone, an attack claimed by Americas top enemy in Iraq.
This morning, a woman who identified herself as Miners sister said Miner, a father of three, had been in Iraq since the end of July, and had been in regular contact with family stateside.
"For the most part, he felt it was his duty to go over there," she said. Still distraught over Miners death, his sister spoke only briefly.
Miner worked for DynCorp, a subsidiary of California-based Computer Sciences Corp.
DynCorp specializes in telecommunications, computer network integration, healthcare and defense-related support in the areas of logistics, maintenance and infrastructure management.
Miners sister said he worked in telecommunications in the U.S., as well.
Andrew Carey III of Windham counted Miner as one of his closest friends.
"He was a wonderful man. A loving father and husband. I had a great deal of respect for him," a tearful Carey said this morning. Carey was with Miners family Thursday night.
Prayers for you and all of his family.
Prayers for you and your family. This is indeed sad news.
That's your tribute to your cousin, a cut and paste news item? Don't you have any personal insights that honor his life?
Do you have any reflective conclusions from this event other than Islam is a scourge that needs to be exterminated from the face of the Earth?
How is that, in any way, honoring your cousin's death? Was he hired by Dyncorp to go to Iraq and wipe the scourge of Islam off the planet? He was there, ostensibly, to provide protection for the players who were building a new, democratic Muslim nation. Did he die for naught?
I am confounded by that thinking.
Screw Dyncorp for hiring a guy with three young kids.
My condoleances
This 44 year old man left his wife and three young children to take one of the most dangerous jobs on Earth in the most dangerous place on Earth at the most dangerous time possible. For a big paycheck and adventure.
Let's save are hero worship for the heroes already. His responsibility as a righteous man was to his FAMILY. Period.
No amount of money would be worth that risk to my family's well being. No "pretend I'm a young stud again" adventure can justify that assignment, in that place at this time.
He left a woman and three children under the age of 11 suddenly, needlessly, without her husband and their father.
Sorry, I'm pissed off. For those kids and that family. It's unconscionable. Yeah, I know, I'm blowing up a thread again.
God bless you and your family and our sympathies are with you.
I know that sorry and such doesn't mean much right now, but you do have my sincere condolences.
Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I am truly sorry for your loss.
My condolences and prayers for you and your family
So sorry. Prayers offered for the family.
prayers
My most sincere sympathy to you and your family.
