The 'on the cheap' solution is to take that VCR that is likely gathering dust, take a tuner or even just a portable radio, get a mini-RCA adapter, and plug it into the audio inputs on your VCR. Then set the timer on the VCR to record your shows.
This only works if both programs are on the same radio channel, and playback can be done through the VCR. Most VCRs will record six hours of audio, plenty for Rush and Savage.

I live in an area where it is very hard to rec' Rush's show, despite the fact that it is broadcast from less than 50 miles away from towns in all directions. My experience with streaming audio, a few years ago, was maddening.

Kingu's solution is the best. I ignored the fact that you are gone and need some sort of auto-timing to turn it on.
The VCR would work great.

There's also a product called Replay Radio, which acts kind of like a VCR for streaming audio.
I believe its website is www.replay-radio.com.
It works quite well and has a built in library of many radio shows.
Cheers

You might want to take a look at Total Recorder, which can record everything coming over your computer's sound board, including Real Audio streams. Check out www.highcriteria.com for details. Hope this helps.

Records streaming audio. Big files though. Use an audio converter program to change the format into what you want. MP3, WAV. etc...etc.... It will also make the files considerably smaller. ;)

Another source would be alt.binaries.sounds.radio.misc -- daily recordings of Rush, Savage, Coast to Coast, Libby, Hannity, etc (plus a lot of leftist dribble) is available. It is a more technical solution, but it gives you MP3 files to take with you.

I use an application called ReplayRadio. It's available from Applian.com. It will record radio shows and save them as either MP3s or Windows Media files. I record The Tony Snow Show, Rush and Sean Hannity, then transfer the files to my PDA. I listen to the shows in the car on the way home. I have a cradle for the PDA that fits in the cupholder. It plugs into the headphone jack of my PDA (an HP iPAQ 5455) and transmits the audio through the FM radio. It works great.

Must record Rush today. Rush just confirmed that the AP "undecided" have been fixed. This 86 year old lady who stated she will now vote for Kerry after the 3rd debate confirms she voted for Clinton 2 times and Gore in the last election. She also stated she now lives in Arizona but is from SF. She had absolutely no reason to vote for Kerry except he looked better? Her chief complaint was Bush's policy on immigration but confirmed nothing from Kerry. She said that Rush was a negative influence about Kerry until she saw "presidential" material at the debate. Once a liberal always a liberal, even at 86!

My own cheap solution...
My PC came with MusicMatch so that is what I use. I select "Line In" as the recording source and simply run a mini-jack cable from the radio to the audio input of my computer.
My version of MusicMatch allows me to select the start and end times for the recording, as well as the audio quality. I find that the 32kbs setting works fine with AM broadcasts, although the files can get large (a couple hundred megabytes) for a three or four hour program. It's not much of a concern for me as my PC has a 40G hard drive.
This technique has some limitations, but it usually works for me.

WindowsMedia VCR You can set it to record streaming media at a certain time, like a VCR, or record manually.
