Service Men and Women Upbeat on Bush, War In Iraq, Economy and Intend To Vote, Annenberg Data Show
America’s military service men and women and their families are convinced that the country is going in the right direction, like George W. Bush much more than the civilian population does, support the war in Iraq more strongly and are more positive about the economy, the University of Pennsylvania’s National Annenberg Election Survey shows.
From September 22 through October 5, Annenberg polled 655 adults who have either served on active duty between February and October or who were family members of those who served but were not available to be interviewed. Their answers were compared to the responses of 2,436 adults polled nationally from September 27 through October 3.
The survey did not ask the voting preference of the respondents because a 1948 statute prohibits polling members of the armed services about whom they intend to vote for.
The Pentagon is making intense efforts to get troops on active duty to vote this year, and 94 percent of the military sample said they intended to vote in the presidential election, compared to 85 percent of the civilian population. Eighty-nine percent of the military sample said they were registered, compared to 82 percent of the general population. Most of the polling was conducted before registration deadlines had passed, Seventy-seven percent of the military sample said they had learned enough about the candidates and the issues to cast an informed vote, compared to 65 percent of the general population.
But at the same time, reflecting the non-political tradition of the American military, 55 percent said it would be inappropriate to ask someone of equal rank to vote for a Presidential candidate. Junior enlisted personnel disagreed; 52 percent said it would be appropriate.
Whether they urge anyone to vote for him or not, a variety of measures showed that they preferred Bush to John Kerry. Sixty-nine percent had a favorable opinion of Bush and 23 percent an unfavorable opinion. But only 29 percent had a favorable opinion of Kerry, while 54 percent were unfavorable. (Bush and Kerry both had small favorable balances in the general population.)

It is too bad that the overseas military will be prevented from voting this year.
Someone should ask Kerry to pledge not to challenge the military votes, as Gore did. He will probably obfuscate so much in replying that even the uninformed public would see through him.

Living under a rock? Gore had thousands of overseas ballots tossed out of florida over a technicality which is rarely, if ever, enforced (the ballots were supposed to be postmarked, but overseas military dont often use postmarks, they just send it for free, and they didnt know the frivelous regulations on ballots.)
There are numerous indications that the Democrats are up to foul play this year as well.
In several states, the Democrats are maneuvering to discount oversees ballots or to make them subject to challenge. Some of the current challenges to having Nader on the ballot are causing delays in printing of overseas ballots. In some states, the military ballots will not finally be mailed out so late that it will be difficult to get them back in time. In some cases, service people may make out ballots that are later ruled invalid.
All of this is intended to make it difficult for military people to vote and easy to challenge their votes. Kerry/McAuliffe will do anything to prevent those votes from counting, and, with the help of liberal judges, will likely succeed in the swing states. They intend to do what Gore tried to do last time, but now, with more experience, they will probably do a better job.

Clinton was certainly without morals but Liveshot is not only that but deranged and dangerous. To sell out your brothers in arms, commit treason by aiding and abeiting the enemy and then to run on a platform that paints yourself as a war hero (a 3.5 month one at that) is completely without remorse and if made into a movie would never be called believable.
Besides counting the "I believe" and "I have a plan" how many outright lies did this five bill scumbag tell the American public during the debates? The most damning one is the one he told again in Iowa about the draft... again. As most FReepers know, both draft proposals were brought forward by Dems. And the one in the house received only 2 votes! Who the hell is he kidding with people in the know to think we would ever have a draft (and W would not be able to institute it, only Congress could and that won't happen kiddies)? Anyone who has served in the all-volunteer force knows we could never go back to draft.
The other fact lost on Mama T's boy is that a dead Islamofascist terrorist in Iraq is better than a dead one over here on American soil. For every one of those stone age cowards that blows himself up over there, that's one less to come over here and do it.

My brother is in boot camp right now, but sent in his absentee ballot a while ago. I'm quite sure that he voted for Bush.
