Maybe it has something to do with a certain senate race.

Cheney dropped the ball in his debate.... he should have chastised Edwards for mentioning Mary instead of thanking him.

I think Cheney could "fix" his earlier response now by explaining:

"When John Edwards interjected my daughter's personal life into the first debate, I chose to be generous and gracious and give him the benefit of the doubt. I thought, maybe it was just a silly, spur-of-the-moment stupid comment. However, now that we see clearly that this is a well-planned, orchestrated effort to make my daughter fair game as a political target, my entire family is outraged that the Kerry campaign would stoop so low."

Bush wouldn't have to resign, they would be calling for his impeachment and proceedings would have already started.
Equally disgusting was Edwards wife stating that they must be ashamed! That is a message to the gay community of course, and she should have been slapped!

I thought that Cheney's response showed his complete contempt and anger. I thought he said the little that he said because if he'd said anymore it wouldn't have been prudent. I could see that Cheney was spitting fire and I saw Edwards flinch.

We are not innocent, just forgiven.

Mrs. Cheney was bashed here, but only long enough for us to realize that was the wrong side to be on.

No one has mentioned anything negative about her since, that I have seen.

This is stabbing, and then having your buddy twist the knife in the back.

No, Cheney was very smart in handling Edwards' dig about Mary which had been slyly framed as a compliment. Cheney let a few seconds go by to make sure everyone understood he was upset, then he quietly thanked Edwards for his 'gracious comments' about his family. Tick...tick...tick...and the moderator told Cheney there was time left, did he care to say more? Cheney said NO. Everyone saw through Edwards. A few days later, Kerry proceeds with Plan A., attack GW on the issue of homosexuality and gay marriage...so he trots out the same ploy, and again names Mary Cheney...A LESBIAN...underlined, so even the dumbest Christian conservative would sit up and take notice. But just as he started down this path, you could see Kerry realize he'd just put his foot in it, big time. There was no way to say this without revealing what a putz he is, no fig leaf to hide behind. He had to finish the sentence and did, but he knew it had been a defining moment of his candidacy.

That and his statement about TerAYsa's money at the end, 'marrying up, way way up' and giggling. God, everyone knew he meant money beyond his wildest dreams. How could he say, I'd love her anyway, even if she didn't have three billion bucks? Nobody'd believe him, so he couldn't even say he loved her for her peanut butter cookies. Instead, he veered off into a feeble lie about his mother on her deathbed mumbling 'Integrity' three times. Her last words, we are supposed to believe. As someone said earlier, that's because she knew he didn't have any.

There are layers and layers of manipulation going on. Several political talking heads on Fox agreed today that the comments had been planned ahead of time, coordinated, and the aim was to scare the Bush camp and to keep down the Christian conservative vote. This makes sense. Anything that works. Not long ago, Pat Robertson put out a statement that he'd tell his flock to stay home on election day if GW pulled support for Israel. Maybe Carville thought, hey, this might just work. How can we use it against GW? Ah, Mary Cheney!

I think Rush is slightly off on this one. Kerry and Edwards are making an issue of Cheney's daughter to reinforce the impression within their base that Bush is a heartless and unthinking extremist who is behind the times on homosexual issues.

Nope it serves two purposes it drives to drive a wedge between Bush and Cheney and it is similar to the drunk drivin charge against Bush desigbed to drive away the CC vote

Wonder how the homosexual crowd feels about lebianism being used to smear Cheney from the democrats who supposedly have no bioas against homosexuality unless they can use it to smear

Folks, the overwhelming majority of us on the right side of the political divide thought Bill Clinton was terrible. But this guy Kerry will make Clinton look like a great president. Heck, Kerry will make Jimmy Carter look like a centrist and rock-solid president.

He knew Edwards "compliment" was really an underhanded insult.
Those smart enough to catch it would have been disgusted with Edwards already.
Those who didn't would have seen a negative Cheney response as overly defensive.

Cheney handled it with real class.

Clinton's excuse is that he's a sociopath, and we're lucky we escaped eight years of that man...of course we didn't. We're in the midst of the war on terror because of him. Amazing, isn't it, how many weirdos, incompetents, and crackpots the RATs come up with to run for president. Howie Dean was the pick of the bunch this time, and he's as crazy as a bedbug. Kerry is delusional and certainly obsessed with money. He's so far gone he doesn't realize all those photo ops with expensive toys did him harm. He can't help rubbing it in that he lives in rarified circles we little people can't even begin to imagine. A child would understand this attitude wouldn't get you many votes, but not Kerry. No, we have those memorable sound bites...the town hall: Shut up and sit down! This isn't your business. It's MY business! And that slap at the Secret Service man, 'that son of a b.tch made me fall down.' We're seeing the last days of Kerry, and thank God.

Why doesn't the dim duo mention the acceptance of J effen K's lesbian sister?

I have to go back and review the tape but I had the impression that kerry had to stop, take a breath, and in his own mind cross a line before he could muster the rude and uncalled-for attack on Mary Cheney. It seemed to me as if even he knew it was wrong, but a [non-sequitor alert] "democratically-necessary" wrong.

I'd be surprised if any evangelicals decided not to vote for Bush because his vice president's daughter is a lesbian. Everyone knows Bush's position on gay marriage, and that's what matters.

>>> Cheney dropped the ball in his debate.... he should have chastised Edwards for mentioning Mary instead of thanking him.

Not a good idea, IMO. Just a couple weeks before the debates, Cheney was talking about his daughter's publicly at a campaign rally. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1198505/posts

The reason such a big deal is being made of it now is:

1) The need to attack Kerry on his strengths. Make him look like a homophobe.

2) To make the third debate memorable for that comment, and not for "That must be one of those exaggerations."

It couldn't be playing out better.

When you see a slap coming you put your hand up and try to block it. I think our side looks foolish. I was hoping to stop it before it got worse. Oh well. That's life. The hypocrisy is ours and we might as well wear it proudly. We can talk about her and they can't. That's the new rule.

Heh, heh, heh. Just went to http://www.dnc.org and used their “contact us” function to send them the message below. If they get enough heat, perhaps they’ll dig themselves a deeper hole with a little self imposed flagellation.

The remark Sen. Kerry made about the Cheney’s daughter being a lesbian is NOT playing well in Philadelphia! Water cooler talk is BAD. I believe Sen. Kerry should engage in immediate damage control and apologize loudly and often. This could be the turning point in the election. Whoever advised Sen. Kerry to use that line should be fired with a lot of fanfare. This is a DefCon 5 situation.
