Sometimes that which hurts causes one to laugh. The fact is, the so-called prebate is an entitlement to everyone. It can be lowered and raised. It can be manipulated for purely political purposes, just like the present tax code. There is indeed a worldwide push for a socialistic BIG in all western nations. There was a paper given by a major sponsor of FairTax that said that by having the prebate Fairtax would be joined by those who advocate a BIG in the USA thereby strengthening their overall support for such a change in the tax code. I offered a list of links that if one chose to followup on, would give a picture of how good intentions can go bad. The idea of a prebate has never been a good idea and is pure socialism, right out of the box.

Would you support the Fair Tax proposal if the "prebate" is removed?

Link, please. This is the WWW -- stuff is out there. You cannot make unsubstantiated claims like this without providing a source.

The dirth of liberal support of the NRST evident in the list of co-sponsors, not to mention their vociferous attacks against it in Congress speaks volumes against your socialist conspiracy theory.

The fact is, the so-called prebate is an entitlement to everyone. It can be lowered and raised. It can be manipulated for purely political purposes, just like the present tax code.

So can Social Security. Earned Income Tax Credits, Child Credits, Personal Exemptions and deductions of the federal income tax ...

Sorry your characterization simply does not fly as a reason to reject repealing the income/payroll tax system and going to a national retail sales tax.

The choice will always be in the political system to do many things, regardless of the tax system in place. The demogrant/prebate of the FairTax is nothing more than a mechanism used to avoid the problems of exempting selected products and services for the tax a system known to be rampant with the same sort of political manipulation that you object to.

Whatever tax system is in put in place of the income tax, it will have one form or another of exemption, deduction, or rate structure that is subject to political manipulation. As a consequence, to claim that potential of political manipulation as a reason for not supporting the NRST is simply nothing less than ingenuous as that is inherent in every conceivable system for anything enacted by Congress can also be modified by Congress thus you argument become a non-sequiter common to all tax systems indeed of every action of Congress.
