The mandatory use of such a scheme would lead to the wholesale dismemberment of carriers who ran afoul of those who they offended.
Better the chips were placed in the sternum near the heart.

I saw this earlier today. First thing I thought of, can an insurance company refuse to cover someone who refuses the implant?
It's not only religious types who are opposed. Anyone can see the scary implications of a Big Brother government mentality.
To: neverdem
This is not 'the mark' but once implanted can be upgraded by sensor to hold far more than just medical information. When it becomes REQUIRED to have it or live as a destitute, we know the mark has come.
Don't bother questioning the course of events.
To: Canticle_of_Deborah
I've never had my ears pierced due to religious beliefs.
The Amish survive without many modern conveniences. I'm sure I can fend my way around without one of these.

The writing has been on the wall for years. Sooner...most likely later, people will be scratching their heads and wonder when the heck all this stuff came about...as they march into the local chip implant service center.

Yeah, you start eating up the competition: hatchery tagging, livestock tags etc. I heard a long time ago that if they can do it to your dog they can do it to you...

THESE IMPLANTED CHIP STORIES ARE REALLY BEGINNING TO GET UNDER MY SKIN!

I take it you won't be going in for one? Ya know if you get acute memory loss, your family can retrieve quickly before you fall of a cliff or something...

And what if you wanted it removed? I'm sure that removal would be as difficult as removing those implantable birth control rods that used to be on the market (can't remember the name of the med).

"an insurance company refuse to cover someone who refuses the implant? " Good question! There have been cases for fines being levied by car rental companies that have cars with GPS chips that calculate speed. In the fine print of the rental agreement, you get whacked with a fine EVERY time you speed. The guy was speeding three time and was charged (IIRC $75) for each. The guy went to court and WON, but it was debated. If the pressure from lobbyists in DC are powerful (we are talking insurance remember) than it will probably happen.
