Justice Department Sues Pennsylvania to Give Overseas Voters Two More Weeks to Cast Ballots

NEW YORK Oct. 13, 2004 — The Department of Justice has sued Pennsylvania elections officials in an attempt to give overseas voters two more weeks to cast ballots in the Nov. 2 election, according a published report.

The suit, filed Tuesday in Pennsylvania, contends the state failed to send out ballots in time due to a legal dispute over whether they should list independent candidate Ralph Nader, The New York Times reported Wednesday.

Pennsylvania officials said Tuesday that they would fight the lawsuit, arguing that they will help overseas voters by offering overnight deliveries of ballots or allowing them to fax their completed ballots.

"We are confident that no voter overseas, whether military or civilian, will be left out of the election," Kate Philips, a spokeswoman for Gov. Ed Rendell, told the Times.

Earlier this month, the Pennsylvania Department of State advised county officials that they should not send out absentee ballots listing Nader until the courts determine whether he's allowed on the ballot. A ruling on that issue is expected this week.

Similar legal disputes involving Nader and late primaries kept officials in at least eight of the nation's 15 swing states from being able to mail absentee ballots by Sept. 19, the date by which officials say ballots would have had to be mailed in order to be returned on time.

Of those states, Ohio and Washington have already extended their deadlines for overseas voters by 10 days or more.

"I hope the pubbies are on top of this."

I think we are, and fortunately the attorney general is a real smart guy named Ashcroft. I'm sure he's aware of this court case in the keystone state.

I've heard "public service" ads placed on Pittsburgh radio stations by the commonwealth of Pa. telling people to vote even if they're not registered, just use a "provisional ballot."

I think the Republicans should be out front with this whole absentee ballot thing and let the people know that overseas voters are being subjected to politics by their corrupt officials (and we know who runs PA politics)...John Ashcroft is sending a clear message here and it is this: We've got our eyes open and we're NOT going to let rampant fraud happen on our watch!

Thank you so much, Ms. Philips. I can finally get a good night's sleep. /sarcasm

This is a very big story because it shows that the DOJ is on top of things. I hope they can keep control through all of the Dem criminality.

NM has had suits filed for over a month now. It's ALWAYS the RATS who are lying and cheating with voter fraud!

I worry that there is going to be massive violence immediately after the election, especially if President Bush is reelected. This is one of the most important elections ever because of the Supreme Court Judge appointments. IF the RATS get in, we can kiss our first and second Amendments goodbye. Those liberal judges will say we have no 'individual' right to keep and bear arms. I'm buying at least one more gun and I'm stocking up on ammo right now.

I voted in the PA election last week via absentee (in Germany). Nader was not on the ballot. I did not miss him.

I said in 2000 that if Gore had not backed down there would have been a civil war. I wouldn't be surprised if there was one this time with all this rampant and blatant voter fraud.

BTW, you forgot to bust my chops about the Iggles thrashing my G-men and the statute of limitations on gloating and trash talking has run out ;-)

So that's what Nader has been up to. Helping the RATS to disenfrenchise the military vote.

ALL THE MARBLES.

I hope everyone realizes this important issue. This election is for ALL THE MARBLES.

Election of the leader of the most powerful country in the world.

Election of the leader of the country that holds the fate of the entire MIDDLE EAST and EUROPE in it's hands.

Election of the leader of the country that will either value or take away:

Religious freedom

Armed citizenry

Keeping organized crime to a minimum

Reduction of corruption in government

Value of human life.

DON'T KID YOURSELF.

IT's ALL ON THE LINE on this one folks. THEY KNOW IT, and that is why they (liberals, organized crime, communist style governments, dictatorial government, MSM, international speculators (robber barons)) are fighting with every last dollar and person they have.

Damn, I seriously hadn't contemplated this issue. Not that the election isn't important, but since you never really hear the weasels on MSNBCBSABCNN discuss important issues, this one slips by me: the SupCt controls all this stuff.

And there really is all that power in this election, since it seems all but certain that the Senate will try the nuclear option next session and that Presidential judicial appointments will then be at least voted on. And after the old farts retire, one hopes there will be a genuine attempt to replace them with conservatives.

I would agree. Notice I said Leader of the COUNTRY THAT CONTROLS. The leader affects (by choice of SCJustices) and the people affect by voting. The country as a whole affects all these things, and mostly, as the PRESIDENT goes, so goes the country. Bill clinton was successful in doing all kinds of things that the President normally doesn't have the single vote in. TINK ABOWD IT!

P.S. Not saying you haven't given series consideration to all this. Just kinda following up on what I said for everyone's benefit. Your response was very clear, to the point, and reasonable, and I Thank you for that.
