CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) Signs at the bank, the cafe and the Bottlinger Grain bins all declare Crawford the proud home of the president's ranch as "Bush Country." So when the Lone Star Iconoclast, a tiny weekly that bills itself as President Bush's hometown paper, endorsed Democrat Sen. John Kerry, there was payback. Local businesses pulled their ads and banned the paper from their stores. "We felt a little betrayed," said Larry Nelson, manager of the Crawford Country Style, a downtown shop that sells "Luvya Dubya" trinkets and other Bush memorabilia.

And now the owner of the newspaper is calling others vicious because they refuse to sell his newspaper and taking out ads in other newspapers.
That's not vicious, that's the price of taking a stand.
He calls his organization "iconoclastic," yet expresses surprise when there are consequences to his actions.
He made his choice, they made theirs.
The Lone Star Iconoclast, the paper of choice at Carroll's Furniture in beautiful Arden Hills, MD.
Do they sell birds there?
LOL
One free man claims to speak for 704 others, and the 704 other free individuals freely choose to disassociate themselves from a liar in their midst. Opps, wrong on that account:
"Folks in Crawford are quick to point out that Mr. Smith does not even live here."
Only a leftist-Journalist would fail to see the irony in this situation.
SFS
Freedom always comes at a price. He has every right to publish whatever editorial page he wants. They, on the other hand, have every right to tell him where he can store his unsold papers.
How much are these small town papers worth?? the business I mean??
"In this particular case, he made a judgment that he knew was not a prevailing popular sentiment among his readers," Miss Kirk said. "An independent press is supposed to be just that. Of course, we all know free speech is never free."
The Perfesser thinks the folks in Crawford like the President because he has bolstered tourism. Not because he's a strong leader.
Free speech is never free from consequences. Thank God for consequences. They help intelligent people learn. Funny the Libs want to avoid them.
depends on the industry. I know a business that pulled its ad from that paper....and the Waco Tribune Herald.
Did the paper really think the good people in Crawford would rally around their support for the idiot Kerry? Give me a break!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Remember, Liberals always want to shoot off their mouths without consequences, but, if anyone who disagrees with them, and chooses to no longer do business with them, then, this is vicious, and mean spirited!!!!!!!!!!!! We do not have that right of choice, only if you are a Liberal Dummycrat, do you have the right of choice.
Of course, it is never vicious, or mean spirited for a main stream news to use forged documents in an attempt to take down a seated President? I bet Mr. communist Smith never thought anything wrong with that!
No. I mean how much is a small town newspaper company worth? Say a paper that sells 5,000 copies per weekday?
This is what they get. That paper and a local politico there have been spouting their anti Bush stuff for quite sometime now. And it's not on that paper's own doing.
They worked with folks like the DNC and some other big papers...hoping it would hurt the Pres at the polls. "His hometown paper is not with him" they would yell. BUT NOBODAY PAID IT ANY ATTENTION.
So now they, themselves take the hit.
I did a summer internship at the local CBS station in that area when I started college. (summer intern) The station is in Waco. I learned that their is all sorts of dem contacts and the news groups in the Waco area. It is an old Dem stronghold.
The best thing I learned in an internship was the summer before my senior year, at the Corp. HQ for a class 8 truck manufacturer. Something that folks in the news agencies did not seem to have a good grasp of.
That being....when you try and screw somebody, in return for some promised gain....odds are that gain won't happen...and odds are...you get screwed harder.
I watched it happen to people. My mentor told me what to look for...and told me what would happen. He was right.
