Here's the Lava King! This a great thread, djf. Thank you for inviting all of us Freepers into your living room to watch TV coverage of lava flow.
Q. What do scientists call a room where they can study lava?
A. A lavatory.
Alright, okay, it's 2:00 a.m., what'd ya expect?

I see a hand reaching out to turn off the light because it's time to go to bed.

Little-Rock Laverne's Lamp Shade Shop is sponsoring the eruption. Product placement has now reached incandescent heights it seems.

It was great that you took the time to photograph the tv images and then share them with us all.
Tonight we had no local coverage here of Mt. St. Helen, so it's been quite exciting to see what locals up there saw.
The humor on this thread was a bonus!

That is why it is so dang funny.
You didn't mean to do it.
Then that Lamp just took the thread over.
You are going to forever, I hope, chuckle every time you walk in that room and see that lamp.

Wow now that I have all the lights out in our room that Lava Lamp really shows up clear as day.

I admit, it is a kick.
I guess in a year or so, I'll carry my lamp, hike up into the crater, and take a picture!
It is exciting, though. I remember the first time I saw that hill, before it got blown to kingdom come...

I wish we could get more coverage here in Oregon.
I watch NWCN which is King/KGW?(8) and another station.
Now that lava is flowing they are not really covering the story like they said they would. Night Cam and all.

The geologists are saying this is the plug. Somewheres between 1000-1400 degrees F, still very viscous and barely plastic. The real thing hasn't come to the surface yet.

By the way, be careful what you hope for.

Winds tomorrow are forecast to go right over Portland...

Here's White Island Crater on New Zealand. From the photo, you may notice that Kiwis share a similar sense of humor.

tongue in cheek right?
If she really blew, which I do not wish ill air/ash on anyone, I think it could go down the valley here in Oregon if the winds are blowing that way but not back over the Coastal Range West to central coast.
Who knows, speculation.
It is exciting but at the same time don't want anyone breathing the ash.
