The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Ramadan terror concerns?
Full Story

ATLANTA (CNN) -- As more than one billion Muslims prepare to celebrate Ramadan, terror experts are mixed about whether the holy month is a tool for recruiting terrorists.

Some terrorism experts and Islamic scholars say Ramadan gives extremists an opportunity to enlist new recruits.

"It's a time which can be exploited by radical clerics to motivate individuals into taking action on the basis they are somehow serving their religion," says terror expert M.J. Gohel.

And analysts see another temptation for terrorists: exploiting the Battle of Badr, a symbolic date in Muslim history, which falls near the U.S. presidential election.

U.S. Department of Justice

Federal Bureau of Investigation

Press Release

151 Westpark Boulevard
Columbia, SC 29210

October 14, 2004

REWARD INCREASED IN RICIN MAILINGS

Reward Poster (pdf)

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), United States Postal Inspection Service, and the United States Department of Transportation (DOT), Office of Inspector General is offering an increase in the reward money, now up to $120,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) responsible for introducing threatening letters containing ricin into Postal facilities in Greenville, SC, and Chattanooga, TN on October 15, 2003 and October 17, 2003 respectively. Threatening communications inside the envelopes made reference to hours of service regulations in the trucking industry. The author of the threatening letters was seeking repeal of federal regulations which were enacted on January 4, 2004 and mandated more rest and orienting drivers toward a 24 hour work/rest cycle. The regulations will remain in effect until September 30, 2005.

In the first letter, which was typewritten, the author(s)'s claimed that he or she was a fleet owner of a tanker company and demanded that the present laws regarding truck driver hours of service regulations remain unchanged. A type-written message on the exterior of the envelope indicated "caution RICIN POISON Enclosed in sealed container Do not open without proper protection". Inside the envelope was a small, metal vial which contained ricin, a white, granular, potentially deadly poison. The author(s) of this letter claimed to have the ability to make large quantities of ricin and to use this poison if the new hours of service regulations were not repealed by January 4, 2004. The letter was signed "Fallen Angel".

A second letter, addressed to the White House and processed through a postal facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee on October 17, 2003, contained similar threatening language and was directed at the United States Department of Transportation. This second letter threatened to turn "D.C. into a ghost town" if these new "hours of service" regulations went into effect and was signed "Fallen Angel". The author(s) of this letter claimed that the powder on the letter was ricin. The substance contained in the letter was identified as ricin.

Law enforcement authorities are still seeking to develop additional information in this investigation, which has been ongoing for the past year.

Attached to this release is a copy of the updated reward flyer.

Anyone with information concerning the identity of the individual(s) responsible for authoring these threatening letters is requested to contact the FBI toll free at 1-866-839-6241.

"Ex-Gitmo detainees return to terror"
ASSOCIATED PRESS

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "At least seven former prisoners of the United States at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, have returned to terrorism, despite gaining their freedom by signing pledges to renounce violence.
At least two are believed to have died in fighting in Afghanistan, and a third was recaptured during a raid on a suspected training camp in Afghanistan, said Lt. Cmdr. Flex Plexico, a Pentagon spokesman. Others are at large.
Additional former detainees have expressed a desire to rejoin the fight, be it against U.N. peacekeepers in Afghanistan, Americans in Iraq or Russians in Chechnya."

I fixed the formatting in post 663, did you read it?

I read it and am amazed the hate we (the US) have generated with some fanatics. Muslim or not.

It's not hard to derail a train, poison someones water, start forest fires or call in bomb threats. The hard part is digging deep enough inside yourself to muster the hate it would take to generate that mentality.

This JackHole that left the post about hot tapping pipeline needs to be hunted down and hot tapped himself. I love Canada but I love this land of the of the brave and home of the free even more and it'll be a cold day in hell that I wont die stopping anyone trying to terrorize my country on my watch!!!!

Thanks for the article on the school bus drivers.

A few days ago, there were some pics on-line depicting a "drill" with school buses. Just the pics were enough to make one queasy.

Northwest plane evacuated in Fargo, N.D.

10/18/2004, 8:17 a.m. ET
The Associated Press

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A Northwest Airlines plane was evacuated Monday morning at Hector International Airport after a passenger claimed to have overheard someone mention a bomb, police said.

Sgt. Steve Link said the plane's crew was alerted and passengers were told to leave the plane around 5:30 a.m.

The plane was ready to leave for Minneapolis-St. Paul with more than two dozen passengers. They were instead taken to a secure area where they were questioned by local authorities and representatives of the Transportation Security Administration.
