I wonder if this message is their last ditch effort to change the vote against Bush...
(from Mutter's)--I think the Russkies are making a statement here, considering the timing.
Russia test-launches land- and sea-based ballistic missiles
Moscow, Nov 2, SPA
The Russian military successfully test-fired
two ballistic missiles Tuesday, firing one from a nuclear
submarine in the Pacific Ocean and another from the
northwestern Plesetsk cosmodrome, officials said.
The RS-12M Topol missile fired from the space launching
area in Plesetsk hit a designated target on the Kamchatka
Peninsula in the Russian Far East, about 6,700 kilometers
(4,200 miles) east of Moscow, Russia's Strategic Missile
Forces said in a statement released to the media.
In another test launch Tuesday, the St. George nuclear
submarine launched a ballistic missile from under water inthe Sea of Okhotsk in the Far East.
The missile hit a set target in northern Russia, the navy said in a statement.
The St. George is a Delta-III-class submarine, which is
equipped to carry 16 R-29R nuclear-tipped missiles.

I've been having troubles with FR for the past day or so.
Please Freepmail me if you would like on or off the ping list. If you have received new thread notifications in the past, you are on the ping list. If you asked to be added in the past 2 days, you have been added. I have not had time to respond to all the messages yet.
Those choices make sense.
This nonsense about AQ hitting states that vote Red..not buying it in the slightest. Someone is spinning there, IMHO.
NYC and DC are probably their first two choices, assuming they have the ability to pull off another 9/11 or worse.
Considering how very closely this election may end up- possibly including weeks in the courts- I just can't see how OBL would have things "timed" to simultaneously hit states who happen to go for Bush. It just does not make any logistical sense.
It is a feable attempt by AQ to scare voters. They don't even begin to have the capability to do what they are threatening. Secondly, most of those red states are good 2nd admendment states, where they'd be outgunned in a heart beat.
Somehow, I doubt that, I don't buy the Al-Q "if you're red, you're dead." threat either. But I am not going to hit targets expecting it, or prepared for it, and DC and NYC are if anyone is, I am thinking some other major cities may be in for it if we see terrorism in this election.
My guess, West Coast, especially LA, where they simply do not have the #s in their PD to respond to a major incident without outside help.
There are many states that are positive to go Bush though, they could be hot first targets.
Some electoral possibility maps I have seen do a darn good job of splitting the U.S. into 3 (recall the warnings about splitting us in 3?). Blue West, Blue Northeast, Red stripe in the middle (FL and Northwest). I'll post one or two later.
Time to drive home and vote... too bad I'm in a blue state. :<
Agreed. Look to Madrid. Spain changed to a government of appeasement and terrorists are still plotting away to do their dirty deeds.
NYC will always be a top target, many Jihadi rantings show that they are intent on fully destroying the city.
Wow, so the rumor panned out. Interesting, thanks.

Did Osama send election threat?
Ramona Smith in the Philadelphia Daily News (thanks to Ted Robertson) opines that Osama didn't actually threaten U.S. states based on their votes, as was asserted by MEMRI. Smith, in line with the way Osama's message was reported by the mainstream media, was threatening nations, not individual American states, and was not endorsing any candidate.
However, Smith never mentions that this interpretation doesn't come from MEMRI, but from a radical Muslim website that MEMRI quotes:
The Islamist website Al-Qal'a explained what this sentence meant: "This message was a warning to every U.S. state separately. When he [Osama Bin Laden] said, 'Every state will be determining its own security, and will be responsible for its choice,' it means that any U.S. state that will choose to vote for the white thug Bush as president has chosen to fight us, and we will consider it our enemy, and any state that will vote against Bush has chosen to make peace with us, and we will not characterize it as an enemy. By this characterization, Sheikh Osama wants to drive a wedge in the American body, to weaken it, and he wants to divide the American people itself between enemies of Islam and the Muslims, and those who fight for us, so that he doesn't treat all American people as if they're the same. This letter will have great implications inside the American society, part of which are connected to the American elections, and part of which are connected to what will come after the elections."
What's more, an Egyptian journalist seems to have come to the same conclusions about what Osama meant; it's doubtful that he read the MEMRI piece about the states.
Ted also sent me another piece that asserts that MEMRI "cleverly cherry-picks the vast Arabic press, which serves 300 million people, for the most extreme and objectionable articles and editorials. It carefully does not translate the moderate articles."
This is palpable nonsense. Here are some pieces by and about moderates, translated at MEMRI:
Iranian Reformist Leader Reza Khatami: 'Reform is a Revolutionary Process;' 'The Conservatives Are the Enemies of Social Freedoms'
Member of Syrian Reform Movement Criticizes Syrian Regime and Warns Hamas
The Writings of Liberal Saudi Journalist Raid Qusti
A Cairo Conference Calling for Reform Raises the Ire of the Egyptian Religious Establishment
Saudi Government Efforts to Curtail Incitement in Mosques and Press
There are many others besides these.

Intifada Against College Republicans-Arab students physically assault conservatives at SF State
Snippets:
San Francisco, November 1, 2004- A mob of Arab students at San Francisco State University attacked a group of College Republicans on the San Francisco State University campus at noon today during a Turnout the Vote event in front of the campus student union building.
When one of the Republican students asked one of the women that if she hated America so much, why she didnt leave, she screamed at him I have some pride. I would strap a bomb on myself and blow myself up as a suicide bomber rather than call myself an American, according to Wray. He said the woman also ranted that terrorists are freedom fighters.
One woman said shed blow up the College Republicans on campus, Wray continued. They began throwing food at us and even tried to tip over our table. The campus police did nothing. Instead of separating them from our table, they kept pulling me aside and asking if we were willing to leave.
Yes, I suspect he's been on life-support for a couple of weeks while they sorted out his affairs. There have been rumours there about a power struggle so we wait to see how it pans out. Also his memorial service is likely to be attended by quite a few world leaders, which poses some interesting security issues.
Meantime, breaking news from the US: I just heard a rumour that there's an election there today. How did they manage to keep that quiet?
Anyhow, how long will you be staying up for overnight to watch the results? No shortage of news stations to watch on Sky Digital, although it would be nice to have feeds of the domestic US networks to accompany Fox and CNNi.
My result prediction: well I've narrowed it down to two names so far. What's your prediction?
THis is in regards to post 3987.... posted on Its Happening..

Cert trainings (FEMA) conclude today with a simulated response to terror attacks across the country. Interesting timing.
The Philadelphia Daily News has a very, very dumbed down liberal bias and is really bought for it's sports pages.
yes, and it's quite odd that the govt was having jets excersise on intercepting hijacked aircrafts on 9/11.... sometings not right...
