The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Ramadan terror concerns?

ATLANTA (CNN) -- As more than one billion Muslims prepare to celebrate Ramadan, terror experts are mixed about whether the holy month is a tool for recruiting terrorists.

Some terrorism experts and Islamic scholars say Ramadan gives extremists an opportunity to enlist new recruits.

"It's a time which can be exploited by radical clerics to motivate individuals into taking action on the basis they are somehow serving their religion," says terror expert M.J. Gohel.

And analysts see another temptation for terrorists: exploiting the Battle of Badr, a symbolic date in Muslim history, which falls near the U.S. presidential election.

I can't remember if I saw this posted but it's only a part of an Oct. 31st NYT article:

"The Terrorist Threat Integration Center, a joint FBI-CIA intelligence-gathering organization, has drawn up possible attack scenarios for officials to look out for — based on information gathered from communication intercepts and interviews with al Qaeda detainees.

The most extreme of those scenarios includes a multi-pronged biological- and chemical-weapons attack; more airline hijackings; assaults on financial institutions with the use of car and truck bombs and an attack similar to the Madrid subway bombing in march.

Many believe that the ringleader of any possible attack is Adnan Shukriagumah, a 28-year-old Saudi-born Guyanese man who grew up in South Florida.

A $5 million reward has been offered for Shukriagumah, who has bomb- making skills, is trained to fly commercial jets and has been linked to Sept. 11 ringleader, Mohamed Atta.

Intelligence reports say Shukriagumah has hooked up with the El Salvadorian street gang, MS-13, which is known to be very adept at smuggling drugs and people into the United States."

Head of Indiana DEA office dies in plane crash

INDIANAPOLIS -- The head of the Drug Enforcement Administration's Indiana office was among three people killed in a single-engine plane crash in northeast Missouri, officials said.

The four-seat Beechcraft A-36 crashed Friday night near Bible Grove, Mo.

Armand McClintock, 54, assistant special agent in charge of the DEA's Indianapolis District Office, died in the crash, officials said.

"Our FBI evidence response team was called out to the wreckage," Indianapolis FBI agent Wendy Osborne told The Indianapolis Star Saturday. "The FBI is saddened to learn of the news of the tragic accident. We will greatly miss him."

Also killed were Anderson attorney Bill Shearer, 54, and Dr. Ronald Kracke, 54, a Pendleton physician, Missouri's Schuyler County Sheriff Donald Bruner said Sunday.

Bruner said the National Transportation Safety Board and an evidence recovery team from the FBI, which routinely assists with plane crashes, had finished their investigation at the scene on Sunday.

The Beechcraft was flying through a thunderstorm when it crashed in pastureland, said Tony Molinaro, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration in Chicago.

Shearer was piloting the plane, returning to Anderson with Kracke and McClintock from a pheasant-hunting trip in South Dakota, family and friends said.

"He was a very careful pilot," Jack Shearer told The Herald Bulletin of Anderson of his brother, who had been a pilot for nearly 25 years. "I think with the storm going down, they tried to fly under (around) it."

McClintock this year had led an effort to reduce the number of methamphetamine labs in Indiana and doubled the number of DEA agents in Evansville, where he said the problem was acute. The number of meth labs shut down by agents increased to 905 in 2003 from 152 in 1999, according to the DEA Web site.

McClintock, who began his career as an Anderson police officer, also testified in February in front of a congressional subcommittee on drug-trafficking about how families are being destroyed by the increase in meth manufacturing and use.

The Missing 13 Minutes......

One of the main reasons that I started this site was to try to keep us all informed of the terrorist threats that are currently putting the United States citizens at risk of an act of terrorism in our homeland.

As we all know by now, through the media, and various US Federal Commission, Congressional, or Committee reports, intelligence was known by federal agencies BEFORE September 11th, 2001 of an imminent terrorist attack, but Jane and Joe citizen was kept in the dark.

I am deeply concerned that the same type of silence by US officials is happening again.....I could be wrong, but all reports that I received about Osama bin Laden's tape, indicated that there was pre-election threat made on it...BUT, all copies of the censored 5 minute translation that I have seen, do not show that at all.

That 18 minute tape was dubbed 'A message To The American People', yet America was only allowed to see / hear approximately 5 minutes of it! What happened to the other 13 minutes? And why were attempts made to try to have Al Jazeera not air the tape at all????

Well folks, I don't have the answer to those questions, but I do feel we all have a right to know what was said in the missing 13 minutes. Even the jihadi's are wondering what happened to them.

I will be posting an analysis later today that will show you the threats that have been made in the past three years, and why November 2, 2004 is a potential date for a terrorist attack IN the United States.

Muslims may be abandoning Bush

Many who supported his candidacy in 2000 see an erosion of rights since the 9/11 attacks.

Four years ago, Muslim Americans were heartened to hear Republican presidential candidate George W. Bush assure them he would end racial profiling and the use of secret evidence in criminal investigations.

What's more, Bush's conservative views about abortion and other social issues lined up with their own. As a result, Muslims voted overwhelmingly for Bush in the 2000 election.

Four years later, though, Muslims are abandoning Bush in droves. Some polls say Sen. John Kerry could receive more than 80 percent of the Muslim vote and that Bush may do well to finish ahead of Ralph Nader.

Very difficult. I had to defend myself. The Attorney General of Switzerland decided to come one day uninvited. He took away cartons and cartons of documents. I understand that after Sept. 11 there was lots of suspicion and that everybody wanted to check everything. The investigation has finished, the file has been closed, and nothing was ever found.

IS IT HARD TO MAKE PLANE OR RESTAURANT RESERVATIONS?

Luckily, when you go out in public, nobody knows who you are. You walk the street like everybody. I've heard comments when I make reservations. If I am going to have lunch with somebody, the reservations would be in his name.

IS OSAMA STILL CONSIDERED PART OF THE FAMILY?

I think every person is responsible for his acts. If somebody has done something that is illegal, nobody on earth will help him or stand by him. The family will not be responsible for the acts of one of its members.

WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP?

He was more religious than the rest of us.

He was one of the very few who did not leave Saudi Arabia to study. I don't know him very well. I think I saw him before he left [for Afghanistan in the 1980s], and I haven't seen him since. The only memory is that he didn't want music on in the house. He wanted it off. It wasn't "ethical." I thought that was weird.

ANY BROTHERLY FEELINGS?

It has become a name in a newspaper. The story has become ink on paper.

WHAT ABOUT MICHAEL MOORE'S COMPLAINT—THAT LOTS OF BIN LADENS FLED THE U.S. AFTER 9/11 WITHOUT BEING QUESTIONED PROPERLY BY THE FBI?

They did not feel welcome anymore in the U.S. at that time. I want you to put yourself in their shoes. Many senior members of the family were interviewed by the U.S. authorities prior to 9/11. [Those authorities] knew everything about the family before. I have been interviewed by the U.S. authorities.

DO ANY BIN LADENS STILL SUPPORT OR SYMPATHIZE WITH OSAMA?

I don't think so. What he has done hurts the family. Financially, if somebody wants to work with you, they think twice. I have been investigated for the past three years because of that. Should ever anybody help him, that person will be responsible for his actions.

WHAT WAS YOUR REACTION TO THE 9/11 ATTACKS?

Innocent life is sacred.

Elections office evacuated after suspicious package found

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The building that houses the state Division of Elections was evacuated early Monday because of a suspicious package, a state spokeswoman said.

Firefighters and law enforcement agents ordered several employees out of the building before 8 a.m. after the package was reported, said Alia Faraj, a spokeswoman for the Department of State, which oversees Florida's elections.

Faraj said few people were in the building because it was early. No other details were available.

Ian (or anyone),

Do you have a link to either a national or regional precipitation forecast map (showing probabilities for Tues AM and Tues PM) including the NE quadrant of the US (anything with MI, OH, PA, NJ, and NH?) I tried weather.com and NOAA but since I don't go there much I didn't have much success.

I have local forecasts I have pulled up but cannot find anything but a current map that has the probabilities shaded.
