The Truth behind the draft rumors
Fox news

Posted on 10/12/2004 3:43:21 PM PDT by 4Freedom2

I heard it on Brit Hume's show last night. Charlie Rangel is trying to reinstate the draft. Leave it to the libral Democrats to come up with a cockeyed plan and then blame the Republicans (specifically Bush) for it.

No Charlie Rangle and the Dems are trying to scare people by pushing a draft bill on the floor. The bill was defeated 402-2 (Rangle voted against it himself).

Im afraid this isn't news anymore since this has been known for about 9 months. What is actually news is that the MTV "Rock The Vote" 'non-partisan' campaign is emailing out fake draft notices to scare young voters. As if the vote was a real issue in this campaign, or that it was 'non-partisan.'

I think we need a serious investigation starting November 3rd into the actual 'non-partisan' and tax-exempt status of a bunch of these leftist crapweasals. Maybe they should be afraid of US for a change.

Been out of the loop for a while haven't you. ;-)

This is old news, and even Wrangle voted against
his own bill. It was a cheap Democratic trick
that went nowhere.

Search these forums for about 1200 article on this subject.

I heard Rangel talking about bringing back the draft to make the war unpopular, months ago. So IMHO it is a ruse to stimulate anti-war protest.

The democrats found this tactic worked in the late 60's and early 70's. They are playing the same tricks again.

Rangel was wasting congress's time and money grandstanding. His point was that it was the poor and minority who were bearing the burden of going to war, so the President and congress didn't care about the casualties.

His plan to introduce legislation that would put the necks of middle and upperclass whites on the block to see if the elite in Washington were willing to risk the lives of their own for this war.

It was never a serious piece of legislation, just used to make a point and waste our tax dollars.

Rangel said he submitted it to "stir things up". But I'm wondering now, even though voted down last week, if it's not something Kerry might want if elected (God forbid) since he plans to add 40,000 active duty troops and double special forces. How else would he manage that without a draft.

Logical question, don't you think? How is it the MSM hasn't picked up on this?</sarcasm>

A Kerry presidency would embolden our enemies...which is why they all support him

They will make a move against a weak president such as Kerry

The military will leave service rather than serve under a traitor such as John F Kerry

Kerry will have no choice but to re-instate and use the draft to raise an army...as did Kennedy and Johnson

If you followed the other links. then you know the story. Unfortunatly this was a partisan act by Charles Rangle from New York (D) and he had started this last year, because he felt there were a disporportant amounts of hispanics and black in the military. He had stated on fox news several times that he was doing this to draw attention to the fact that we were at war and there was a disproportionate amount of minorities fighting it for "a bunch of white men."

What the real shame is about the whole thing. Charles Rangle #1. Voted against the bill himself last week when it came up for the vote. (as others have already pointed out.
#2. I fear that he and the DNC did this for no other reason then to create a draft scare to use against Bush.(just prior to the vote several college students and young people were getting notice and emails form DNC operatives stating that the need to get out and vote to defeat the draft Bush was considering after he got elected.
#3. I do not see how the issue of having more minorities the "whites" in the military has anything to do with a politician one way or another. It is an all volunteer military. Those that are fighting entered the military of their own free will. A draft present the possibility of drafting more minorities into the military then it would prevent it. Due to simple population factors of the US.

So as you can see this was an ill conceived partisan action. That was not well thought out and in the end back fired on Rangle and Co.

The truth is, if we need a draft we should have one, and if we don't, we shouldn't.

Everything else, Republican, Democrat, whatever, is BS.

I believe Rangel was one of the idiots in the first Gulf War crying about the high numbers of blacks in the front line Infantry units. This lie was shot down quickly due to the infantry units consisting of mostly white guys. Charlie is such a fool, he would do well as a resident of North Korea. Bush/Cheney 2004

Wrangel was on O'Reilly the first week of the war calling for a draft 18 months ago.

Charlie Rangel has been advocating reinstating the draft for years.

He believes that if rich whites are drafted, America will never go to war.
