John Kerry: A Navy Dove Runs for Congress
By SAMUEL Z. GOLDHABER
Crimson Staff Writer
"...One time Kerry was ordered to destroy a Viet Cong village but disobeyed orders and suggested that the Navy Command simply send in a Psychological Warfare team to be friend the villagers with food, hospital supplies, and better educational facilities."

Guess he didn't have his trusty village torching Zippo handy.
Doesn't make sense ... Kerry would embrace that purported "attack of conscience" in a heartbeat.
My Note:
Kerry disobeyed lawful orders and
gave aid and comfort to the
Viet Cong while US service people
died in Viet Nam
and were POW's in North Viet Nam
This is PROBABLY why Kerry
will not sign Form 180
I wonder how many other lawful orders he disobeyed?
We'll never know.
Guess we'll just have to guess.
I spent 3yrs on a destroyer in the Navy from
'66-'69 as a Gunners Mate, GMG3.
USS CORRY DD 817 '68-'69 Gulf of Tonkin Yacht Club Member.
http://www.uss-corry.com/
Home port was Norfolk Virginia
and sailed with her in the North Atlantic,
Caribbean,(dealt with Cuban gunboats off of Havana in Jan '68)
thru the Panama Canal, across the Pacific to Viet Nam and back.
I was there the same time Kerry was.
I was there Oct'68-Apr'69 on the destroyer USS Corry DD-817
which supplied PCF's and PBR's
and provided gunfire and gunfire support
in North AND South Viet Nam.
My ship may have even supplied
Kerry's boat in the Mekong Delta
Although there are many similarities between naval gunfire support
and Operation Sea Dragon (which ended Nov '68), they differ in two important areas:
naval gunfire support is normally fired at the request of troops ashore,
while Sea Dragon's mission is the interdiction of supplies and destruction
of military targets; and naval gunfire support is always conducted in South Vietnam,
while Sea Dragon missions are fired only above the demilitarized zone.
29 US Navy ships received gunfire from Viet Cong shore batteries.
My ship DID NOT get hit by the VC.
In Feb '69 my ship was part of Operation Bold Mariner
which was the largest amphibious assault since Korea.
I suspect there is more than one reason why the Traitor doesn't want his records made public.
BTW, thanks for all the work you have done and are doing to keep this issue on the forefront.
Semper Fi,
Kelly
Kerry is a proven liar about things Vietnam, and this buttresses his claim that there were widespread atrocities in Vietnam.
So IMO this one is best left in the dusty archives, because I really don't think it has an upside.
Was that before of after he torched it and killed all the livestock? Filming the whole thing for Dick Cavett.
BS. If true, he would have talked about it on and on forever.
"...One time Kerry was ordered to destroy a Viet Cong village but disobeyed orders and suggested that the Navy Command simply send in a Psychological Warfare team to be friend the villagers with food, hospital supplies, and better educational facilities."
He brang them all ponies and rainbows when the mean old army didnt listen to him.
What a steaming sack of revisionist crapola. Its a bad sign when hes scrounging around trying to pull a few Kumbayaish Naderites back into the camp.
BTTT!!!!!!!
O'Neill discusses this very incident in his book, "Unfit for Command."
I can't recall what O'Neill wrote about it exactly, but I believe that it was either (1) Kerry never made the recommendation and is lying about that just like how he lied or inflated many of his actions in Vietnam in an effort to make himself look good, or (2) Kerry actually made the recommendation but it had nothing to do with refusing orders.
Either way, these psychologial deals turned out to be completely ineffective.
Is there someway to bypass him releasing the information? After he is seeking to be commander in chief. We have a right to know what the heck he's all about?
I agree with you 100% NVA. This looks more like a trial balloon attempt to innoculate Kerry from further heat over the fact that he won't sign the Form 180.
Sounds like spin to me. Aren't there other eye witness accounts that describe a different Kerry.
I wonder what the source of this information is? Kerry made a lot of statements after the war to portray American troops as war criminals. It's possible the source for this is Kerry himself, in which case it's highly suspect to say the least.
Thanks Tonk...just read this...Im afraid this will only endear him more to his brain dead followers.
You sure this isn't from the Harvard Lampoon, instead of the Crimson? This sounds like a parody -- liberal Democrat wages war "differently." ROFL!!
Isn't it just like Kerry to suffer criticism for not releasing his records in silence, not wanting to brag about his record in Viet Nam.
